Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
We're looking for a Manager, HR & Labour Relations to support our Cambridge and Owen Sound manufacturing facilities. In this role, you'll be a key partner to operational leaders: helping them build strong teams, navigate labour relations matters, and create a positive, productive workplace. You'll lead HR and LR strategies across union and non-union groups, oversee talent acquisition, support leadership development, and act as a trusted advisor on employee relations, change management, and workforce planning. You'll also serve as the company's primary liaison with the United Steelworkers (USW) and lead collective bargaining, grievance resolution, and arbitration preparation.

This is a high-impact role where you'll shape labour relations strategies, strengthen partnerships with leaders and union partners, and influence the employee experience across our component operations.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY AS MANAGER, HR & LABOUR RELATIONS
  • Serve as the primary connection between the company and the United Steelworkers, maintaining strong relationships and resolving labour-related issues collaboratively.
  • Lead the full collective bargaining cycle, including strategy development, research, proposal preparation, and acting as the company spokesperson during negotiations.
  • Guide managers and supervisors on labour relations best practices, conflict resolution, contract interpretation, and employee issue management.
  • Oversee investigations into employee concerns or incidents, ensuring fairness, thorough documentation, and timely resolutions.
  • Direct the preparation of reports and insights on grievance trends, labour relations activities, and workforce data.
  • Partner with operations and HR teams on workforce planning to ensure staffing aligns with production goals and shift requirements.
  • Lead recruitment strategies for both unionized and non-union roles, ensuring high-quality sourcing, interviewing, and hiring processes.
  • Support onboarding, training coordination, and leadership development programs that enhance capability across the plant.
  • Monitor attendance trends and partner with leaders to address absenteeism and maintain workforce stability.
  • Build talent pipelines by developing community and post-secondary partnerships and leveraging government programs.
  • Manage immigration processes such as OINP and LMIA and support temporary foreign workers in the portfolio.
  • Provide direction and coaching to four direct reports, ensuring strong performance, effective workload management, and a collaborative team culture.
  • Collaborate closely with EHS, technical training, HR COEs, disability management, and communications teams to support talent strategies and employer branding.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience in HR and labour relations, with expertise in talent acquisition, labour relations, grievance handling, arbitration prep, and collective bargaining (ideally with USW or similar unions).
  • University degree in HR, Labour Relations, or a related field; a Master's in Industrial Relations (MIR) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario labour and employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, OHSA, Labour Relations Act, Human Rights Code, and AODA.
  • Skilled in workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes.
  • Experience in workforce planning, staffing, and attendance management in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Proven leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and building collaborative teams.
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence without authority and present recommendations backed by data.
  • Experience supporting change management and driving continuous improvement initiatives
