Full Job Description
Human Resources Business Partner

THE PURPOSE:

The Human Resources Business Partner serves as a strategic advisor to retail and corporate leadership, driving employee relations excellence, workforce planning, and people development initiatives. This role partners closely with District Managers and corporate leaders to support business objectives through data-driven insights, talent strategy, and strong manager capability. While this role oversees employee relations matters and investigations, it operates primarily as a proactive HR leader - identifying trends, strengthening people processes, and implementing solutions that elevate performance and organizational health. This is not a transactional HR position; it is a visible business partner who anticipates risk, influences leadership decisions, and takes action based on workforce insights.

THE ROLE (what you are accountable for):

Strategic HR Partnership & Workforce Planning
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to District Managers and corporate leaders, aligning people strategy with business goals
  • Analyze employment data points (turnover, engagement, performance trends, corrective actions, exit data) to identify patterns and actionable insights
  • Lead talent planning and succession strategies in partnership with District Managers, strengthening bench depth and implementing targeted people initiatives to support critical or high-risk stores.
  • Identify workforce trends and proactively implement solutions to improve retention, performance, and culture

Employee Relations & Investigations
  • Manage employee relations matters across retail and corporate populations, including performance concerns, policy interpretation, and workplace issues
  • Lead investigations as needed (harassment, discrimination, retaliation, policy violations), ensuring fair, timely, and compliant resolution
  • Provide clear documentation, findings summaries, and risk-based recommendations
  • Partner with the Director of HR and Legal on complex or sensitive matters
  • Ensure consistent and compliant application of policies across multi-state operations

Manager Coaching & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coach managers on performance management, documentation, conflict resolution, and corrective action best practices
  • Serve as a key liaison between managers and HR, ensuring alignment and consistency in decision-making
  • Work cross-functionally with Talent Acquisition to align hiring strategies, monitor hiring trends, and support workforce planning
  • Collaborate with Payroll, Benefits, and other HR functions to ensure cohesive and equitable employee outcomes

Employee Development & People Process Leadership
  • Lead employee development initiatives to strengthen leadership capability across the organization
  • Design and facilitate "train-the-trainer" programs to improve management effectiveness and consistency
  • Help develop and refine scalable people processes that enhance compliance, efficiency, and employee experience
  • Recommend training programs, policy updates, and process improvements based on workforce data and business needs

YOU ARE:

You are adaptable and resilient, able to navigate ambiguity and balance competing priorities with confidence. You are highly organized and detail-oriented, ensuring thorough documentation and operational excellence.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
  • 3-5+ years of progressive HR experience supporting both retail and corporate populations
  • Experience managing employee relations and workplace investigations
  • Strong knowledge of California and multi-state employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience analyzing workforce data to drive strategic decisions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
