Job SummaryThe HR Business Partner ensures that all employment practices align with collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and the organization's mission, values, and culture. The HRBP I serves as a trusted partner to assigned departments within MVHS. Provides guidance and support in all areas of HR, including employee and labor relations, performance management, workforce planning, talent acquisition, & organizational development. Plays a key role in building strong relationships with leaders, employees, and union representatives to foster a positive, fair, and compliant workplace. Participates in conversations and activities with union representatives and follow up activities.
Core Job Responsibilities- Serves as a HR partner and resource to site or unit leadership and staff. Meets regularly with managers. Provides day-to-day coaching and guidance to line management (e.g., employee counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, business unit restructures, workforce planning, etc.).
- Develops, reviews, updates, and approves job descriptions in partnership with leaders to ensure role clarity, organizational alignment, market competitiveness, and compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Partners with leaders and HR teams to assess, audit, and maintain compliance across all HR functions, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, organizational policies, accreditation standards, and best practices.
- Manages and resolves routine employee/labor relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations. Escalates complex issues. Takes appropriate action in communicating investigation outcomes. Ensure that agreements are documented and executed.
- May have conversations on grievances with employees and union representation.
- Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements, policies, and collective bargaining agreements, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Participates in HR related committees across the organization.
- Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with HR specialists to develop solutions, programs and policies.
- Identifies opportunities to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Implements HR programs including compensation, benefits, employment practices, management practices, organizational development, employee/labor relations, diversity, performance management, accreditation readiness, and compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.
- Identifies orientation and training needs/initiatives for units and individual employees, as well as executive coaching needs.
- Maintains the confidentiality in all activities and shares information with discretion.
- Is flexible to travel to work sites within the region.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education/Experience RequirementsREQUIRED:- Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 1 year of experience in Employee Relations, HR, or a closely related role.
- Knowledge of labor/union and employee relations practices and NYS Labor Laws.
- Ability to manage conflict effectively and deliver difficult messages.
- Excellent listening, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient with MS Office tools and HRIS systems.
