POSITION SUMMARY

The Human Resources Business Partner, Labor Relations is a strategic business partner and trusted advisor to operational leadership, employees, and executive management. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive human resources leadership and consultation in the areas of employee relations, labor relations, talent management, organizational effectiveness, performance management, workforce planning, recruitment, compensation, compliance, training, and employee engagement.

The incumbent develops and executes human resources strategies aligned with organizational objectives while fostering a positive, productive, and compliant work environment. The role leads complex employee and labor relations matters, provides guidance to management regarding workforce issues, and ensures the consistent administration of company policies, programs, and collective bargaining agreements.

This role requires a seasoned HR professional with extensive labor relations experience, including grievance resolution, collective bargaining negotiations, arbitration case preparation, contract administration, and union-management partnership development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources Leadership
  • Serve as the primary Human Resources partner to division and operational leadership teams.
  • Align HR initiatives with business objectives and organizational strategy.
  • Provide expert guidance on workforce planning, succession planning, organizational development, and talent management.
  • Partner with leadership to implement performance management processes, compensation programs, and employee development initiatives.
  • Develop strong partnerships with employees at all organizational levels to foster trust, accountability, and engagement.
  • Provide coaching and consultation to managers regarding employee performance, conduct, attendance, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate employee engagement programs and activities that promote a positive work culture.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and administration of HR policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Analyze workforce trends and recommend strategies to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with corporate HR and business leaders to ensure consistency and alignment across the organization.

Labor Relations Leadership
  • Serve as the organization's lead Human Resources representative for labor relations matters involving unionized workforces.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with union leadership and bargaining unit employees.
  • Interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements to ensure consistent application and contractual compliance.
  • Lead investigations and resolution of labor-management disputes.
  • Manage the grievance process, including grievance intake, fact-finding, documentation, response preparation, settlement discussions, and resolution.
  • Provide strategic guidance to management regarding contract interpretation, labor agreement compliance, and risk mitigation.
  • Represent the organization during grievance meetings and labor-management committee meetings.
  • Prepare arbitration cases, including evidence collection, witness preparation, case strategy development, and coordination with legal counsel.
  • Participate as a management representative in arbitration hearings and other third-party proceedings.
  • Lead or actively support collective bargaining negotiations, including proposal development, costing analysis, negotiation strategy, and contract implementation.
  • Advise leaders on labor agreement provisions related to wages, benefits, scheduling, overtime, seniority, job bidding, discipline, and workforce reductions.
  • Monitor labor relations trends and recommend proactive strategies to maintain positive employee and union relationships.
  • Conduct labor relations training for supervisors and managers to ensure effective contract administration and workforce management.
  • Support organizational change initiatives while ensuring compliance with collective bargaining obligations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education, experience preferred in human resources, general business, or related field
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive Human Resources and Labor Relations experience in an exempt level role.
  • Oil & gas industry experience is beneficial.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the overall business environment, company culture and HR systems and processes
  • Knowledge of current key rules, laws and regulations related to human resources and labor relations
  • Knowledge of external working environment and the industry
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to multi-task; Sound decision making and problem-solving skills.

Office Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Prolonged periods working at a desk in front of a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time

  • Ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident.
