This position will work closely with end users, product teams, software engineers, and other stakeholders to understand operator needs and translate user feedback into effective interface designs and product-development priorities.
Responsibilities- Apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and UI/UX principles to software-centric system development.
- Develop and administer qualitative and quantitative user-assessment methods.
- Collect and analyze end-user feedback and usability data.
- Conduct formative and summative user assessments.
- Translate user research and feedback into actionable product-backlog items and development priorities.
- Develop journey maps, user flows, task analyses, and related UX artifacts.
- Develop and evaluate UI concepts, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
- Collaborate with software-development teams, product owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Support user-centered design activities for complex systems operating within a broader system-of-systems environment.
- Support evaluation of designs against applicable human-factors standards and guidelines.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, UI/UX Design, or another related discipline.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related experience, or Master's degree with 0 years of related experience.
- Fundamental understanding of Human Factors Engineering principles as applied to software-centric system development.
- Experience developing and administering qualitative and quantitative user-assessment methods.
- Experience collecting and analyzing end-user feedback and data.
- Experience using formative and summative feedback to influence product-development priorities.
- Experience developing journey maps, user flows, task analyses, or equivalent UX artifacts.
- Demonstrated experience with user-interface design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, product stakeholders, and end users.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working on a product team and helping drive a product backlog in coordination with multiple Scrum-team product owners.
- Prior experience supporting Missile Defense Agency or similar DoD programs.
- Experience working with diverse teams in an Agile environment.
- DoD experience with user-centered UI/UX design and/or user research for complex systems.
- Experience supporting development and assessment against MIL-STD-1472.
- Strong interest in understanding complex mission systems, end users, and operational workflows.
