Job Summary:

The HSE Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies. The specialist will work with site leadership to foster a proactive safety culture and minimize the risk of accidents, injuries, and environmental harm in a manufacturing environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation

  • Articulate and execute strategic HSE direction with local leadership while supporting overall business goals.
  • Develop and facilitate site HSE programs and processes such as training, audits, observations, risk assessments, policy.
  • Participate in and possibly lead divisional focus and improvement teams.
  • Acts as technical advisor to management, teams and other functional groups to facility towards continual HSE improvements
  • Work with Plant leadership for developing and implementing site-specific HSE policies and programs, aligning with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  • Work with Plant leadership for developing and maintaining emergency response plans and coordinating regular drills to test their effectiveness.
  • Maintain all required environmental and safety documentation, logs, and records.

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the manufacturing floor, facilities, and equipment to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Perform risk and hazard assessments to determine employee exposure and recommend corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate risks.
  • Review new equipment and process plans to ensure safety requirements are incorporated from the design phase.

  • Develop and deliver safety training for new hires, employees, and management on topics such as safety protocols, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization by encouraging employee engagement and participation.
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and serve as a liaison for compliance matters.

  • Lead or support investigations into all incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine the root cause.
  • Initiate, track, and verify the satisfactory completion of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Compile and analyze incident data to identify trends and develop strategies for accident prevention.

  • Manage waste disposal and pollution control programs in accordance with regulations.
  • Monitor environmental recordkeeping systems and prepare and submit all required environmental reports.
  • Ensure proper onsite management of hazardous waste and assist with waste minimization efforts.


Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Associates degree and 7+ years of experience in an HSE role within a manufacturing or industrial setting. Bachelor's degree preferred and 5+ years of experience in an HSE role within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are highly desirable.


Skills/Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of regulations and the regulatory process.
  • Behavior Based Safety experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management.
  • The ability to work on the factory floor and respond to emergencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal (OSHA, EPA) and state regulations.
