Job Description:

Job Summary

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing EHS programs across Nextpower’s’ manufacturing and warehouse operations, while providing occasional safety support for field construction activities, R&D and Nextpower local facilities. This role will drive continuous improvement in safety culture, compliance, and risk reduction in high-volume industrial environments such as production, electrical testing, material handling, quality control, and equipment maintenance, all of which require strong coordination and safety oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Program Development & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and manage EHS programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with Nextracker standards and applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and EPA regulations.

  • Maintain and improve core programs, including IIPP, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, powered industrial trucks, cranes/rigging, hot work, ergonomics, chemical management, and waste handling.

  • Support ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems as applicable.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Control

  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments in manufacturing areas.

  • Identify hazards and implement effective engineering and administrative controls.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and contractors to ensure compliance and proper documentation.

Training & Competency Development

  • Design and deliver safety training programs and onboarding sessions for manufacturing and field personnel.

  • Develop training materials, toolbox talks, SOPs, and visual standards.

  • Maintain accurate training records in EHS management systems.

Incident Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, and property damage.

  • Perform root cause analyses (5-Why, fishbone, etc.) and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.

  • Track and report EHS performance metrics (TRIR, DART, leading indicators) and identify trends for improvement.

Emergency Preparedness & Safety Culture

  • Develop and maintain Emergency Action Plans and Fire Prevention Plans.

  • Conduct drills and ensure site readiness.

  • Co-chair the Safety Committee and promote proactive engagement, observation, and recognition programs.

Field Construction Support

  • Provide EHS oversight, training, and auditing support at field construction sites as needed.

  • Ensure compliance with construction safety standards (fall protection, confined space, electrical safety, crane/rigging).

  • Assist with pre-task planning, JHAs, and contractor safety coordination.

Documentation & Systems

  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including inspections, incidents, training, and compliance records.

Utilize EHS management software to manage incidents, audits, dashboards, and compliance workflows.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or heavy industry (e.g., electrical components, metal fabrication, plastics, assembly).

  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and Cal/OSHA regulations.

  • Proven experience developing and implementing EHS programs and safety training.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; proficient in root cause analysis and data trending.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and EHS management systems.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally for field assignments.

  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, climb ladders/stairs, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs while using required PPE.

Preferred:

  • Experience with ISO 45001/14001 management systems.

  • Contractor or supplier safety management experience.

  • Lean manufacturing / Kaizen / Six Sigma background.

  • Bilingual (Spanish, Vietnamese, or other) communication skills.

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education and other job-related reasons. The annual salary range for this position is 120,000.00 to 130,000.00 (Applicable to California)
