Activities

BASIC PURPOSE

To support employees, facility and grounds by managing HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) to meet safety and security, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance to local, state and federal laws and regulations.

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Equivalent in related field.
  • Five years experience in manufacturing environment


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Position responsibilities include:
  • Develop EHS strategies that support business needs and vision for the organization.
  • Develop and oversee company training programs for employees in areas such as hazardous material handling, emergency response, OSHA regulatory training, industrial hygiene, life safety and environmental and EPA compliance.
  • Follows all Hutchinson recording and reporting requirements.
  • Maintains compliance to ISO14001 certification
  • Manages the hazardous waste and recycling program with compliance, safety, and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken on health, safety and environmental hazards or potential hazards.
  • Champion projects to achieve plant and corporate goals and objectives. Develop and maintain metrics to ensure ongoing performance.
  • Other EHS responsibilities include regulatory interpretation, planning, and auditing.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing management systems and new programs to reduce injury potential and ensure robust regulatory compliance.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Ithaca Plant Manager. Maintains regular interface with all levels of plant management and personnel in Ithaca as well as Departmental Heads in MA.

BACK-UP

In absence of an incumbent in this position, the back-up for primary duties is responsibility of the MI Plant Manager. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned among other qualified employees, depending upon business priorities.

COMPETENCIES

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Qualification Requirements
  • Fully responsible for planning, organizing and running technical projects. Complete and manage all documentation including technical quotes and proposals, project schedules, cost plans, and purchase requisitions.
  • Trained to maintain an Environmental Management System.
  • Ability to lead and work with teammates on project activities
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes used in-house
  • Experience with most of the following: Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MiniTab, Oracle, AutoCad.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to provide leadership with customers and internal personnel at all levels.
