The HR Communications Lead position shapes how MITRE communicates its people strategy-bringing to life the initiatives, stories, and experiences that attract, engage, and retain a mission-driven workforce. This position reports to Communications & External Affairs (CXA) and is the strategic communications partner to Human Resources. This role develops and executes integrated communications that advance MITRE's talent strategy, strengthen the employee experience, and reinforce MITRE's reputation as an employer of choice.

Working closely with HR and CXA leadership, this position translates complex people initiatives into clear, compelling communications that support four strategic priorities: building robust leadership capability, attracting and developing the right talent, creating extraordinary employee experiences, and advancing HR operational excellence. From executive messaging and organizational change to employer branding and employee engagement, this role ensures communications are aligned with MITRE's mission, values, and enterprise priorities.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic communications professional with a primary focus on HR while maintaining strong coordination, alignment, and two-way communication with the home organization, Communications & External Affairs, to ensure HR needs are met in a manner consistent with MITRE priorities, standards, and communications governance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive HR communications strategy that supports MITRE's people strategy, mission, and business objectives.
  • Partner with CXA and HR executives to align messaging with enterprise priorities and organizational change initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted communications advisor to HR leadership on high-impact initiatives, sensitive communications, and executive messaging.
  • Ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and brand across all communication channels and touchpoints.

Employee Communications & Engagement
  • Lead communications that support the full employee lifecycle-from recruitment and onboarding through career development, recognition, and retirement.
  • Craft compelling messaging related to company culture, benefits, total rewards, organizational changes, talent programs, policy updates, and leadership communications.
  • Develop communication campaigns that increase employee awareness, understanding, and participation in HR programs and initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the employee communications experience through audience segmentation, storytelling, and channel optimization.

Employer Brand & Talent Communications
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and HR leadership to advance and promote MITRE's Employer Value Proposition.
  • Create integrated communication strategies that enhance MITRE's reputation as an employer of choice across key talent markets.
  • Develop content that highlights MITRE's culture, mission, employee stories, career opportunities, and workplace experience across digital and social channels.
  • Support recruitment marketing efforts by creating messaging and campaigns that attract diverse, mission-driven talent.

Change Management & Organizational Communications
  • Develop communication strategies for organizational changes, workforce initiatives, and enterprise HR transformations.
  • Partner with change leaders to build communication plans that increase transparency, reduce uncertainty, and drive employee understanding and adoption.
  • Ensure leadership messaging is timely, authentic, and aligned with organizational objectives.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Establish communication metrics and key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness and impact of HR communications and engagement initiatives.
  • Analyze employee feedback, communication analytics, and engagement data to continuously improve communication strategies.
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic recommendations to HR and Corporate Communications leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Human Resources, Marketing, or a related field.

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and executive communication skills with strong storytelling abilities.
  • Experience partnering with senior executives and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
