Human Resources Business Partner

Our Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) is a critical member of the site leadership team and provides the functional expertise and foundational people support to safely drive productivity and engagement within our operations. If you are an experienced HR professional with operational experience and a passion for people, we want to hear from you!

We're looking for aHuman Resources Business Partner to join our Heffley Creek division, located in Kamloops, British Columbia. This role is critical in ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality laminated veneer lumber (LVL), plywood, and residual products while supporting operational efficiency and safety. With approximately 250 employees, Heffley Creek Division produces, LVL, Plywood and Veneer products, safely and sustainably while producing approximately 180 million square feet of plywood and 28 million square feet of veneer per year, for customers around the world so they can build their homes and their communities.Our ideal candidate has the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years' experienceas a human resources generalist within all components of the HR functions; ideally within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • University degree or diploma in human resources or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred.
  • Continuing record of professional development.
  • Strong working knowledge oflabour relations, employment standards, WCB and safety legislation.
  • Strong experience in aunionized environment is preferred.
  • Strongorganizational,problem solving, andinterpersonal skills.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS software.
  • Experience supporting multiple divisions or departments simultaneously.
  • Excellentwritten and oral communication skillsand the ability to work in both team and self-directed environments.
  • Ability to operate with total confidentiality, professionalism and respect at all times.


In this role you will:

  • Provide guidance and input for business unit restructures and workforce planning while supporting the implementation of company-wide initiatives and partner with corporate HR to implement and support people programs and policies.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze HR statistics and metrics to provide information and recommendations to make gains in safety, productivity and engagement.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (ie. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, performance reviews) while working closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provide expertise and guidance on employee relations issues and research and recommend revisions and updates to existing policies based on people, regulatory, statutory and business needs.
  • Seek out opportunities to engage with external stakeholders such as local colleges; local community agencies; training agencies and authorities; and Indigenous groups or First Nations.
  • Provide advice and counsel to supervisors and employees on hourly benefit programs, including short-term and long-disability claims.
  • Ensure the onboarding program is in place and completed to high standards, including benefits sign-up and orientation, and coordinating apprentice schooling/rates and related documentation.
  • Deliver on-demand HR related training (i.e. Supervisor Bootcamp) as required by business conditions and implement corporate training initiatives such as Respectful Workplace Program, Code of Conduct training and Alcohol & Drug Program.
  • Support the recognition programs in safety, attendance, and length of service.
  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance to workplace safety rules, provincial regulations, and Tolko policies while partnering with divisional safety resource to support and promote safety programs.
