Full Job Description
As a Home Office Leader in E&S Casualty, you will be responsible for the overall performance and management of the E&S Casualty portfolio. You will will oversee and manage the existing portfolio by working closely with Head of Casualty, and underwriting team to ensure we are writing well structured business within our target portfolio. This role will work closely with supporting business functions to maintain a profitable portfolio while keeping a balanced focus on production. Additionally, you will work with E&S Casualty leadership to develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and processes to help achieve AXA XL's target portfolio.

As part of your role, you will help lead multidisciplinary business review and feedback sessions in partnership with actuarial, claims, underwriting, legal, and other teams to ensure financial and operational targets are met. This role will also involve developing elite E&S Casualty underwriters by identifying training and knowledge gaps and creating plans to address them.

You will report to the Head of E&S Casualty. Additionally, you will work closely with the Head of E&S Product and the rest of E&S Leadership.

What you'll be doing

UNDERWRITING:
  • Primarily Responsible for Underwriting the unit's referrals, and the most complex new and renewal business within assigned remit. Drive profitable premium and rate goals, working with actuarial and claims and successfully delivering results consistent with financial plan.
  • Work closely with brokers and agents to understand the specific needs of their clients and to ensure that the insurance policies offered are tailored to meet those needs.
  • Exercise discretion and self-supported judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk.
  • Lead and participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
  • Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities and target markets to more effectively enable clients to uncover hidden risks.
  • As an industry thought leader for E&S Casualty, represent AXA XL at key industry events and conferences alongside broker partners, insureds, and potential prospects. Regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings to educate on evolving risk.
  • Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.

PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT
  • Drive the overall portfolio management of the E&S Casualty book of business, including managing our aggregate limit across the underwriting book, understanding loss considerations, and helping the organization achieve its financial and operational goals on an annual basis.
  • Work closely with the E&S Casualty unit as a referral manager, with a specific focus on complex risks that require additional support.
  • Lead profitability reviews and manage the feedback loop process in collaboration with underwriting, actuarial, claims, legal, finance, and other relevant teams.
  • In partnership with the Head of E&S Casualty, manage field underwriting authority and referral triggers to ensure the appropriate checks and balances are in place to enable profitable growth. Maintain a high level of authority for individual risk decisions and referrals.
  • Create and maintain class specific guidelines with up to date industry knowledge and claim trends.
  • Partner with our E&S Product team to evaluate and continuously evolve our guidelines and procedures.

TALENT & TRAINING
  • Help develop talent across the E&S Casualty team through technical training, mentoring, and coaching interactions. Promote the sharing of knowledge regarding relevant global and regional trends, including claims trends.
  • Identify further opportunities for training and upskilling the E&S Casualty Underwriters.
  • Upskill Junior Underwriters on how to properly underwrite and structure a deal.
  • Own the E&S Casualty underwriting guidelines and best practices in alignment with E&S leadership.
  • Provide extensive product knowledge and understanding to effectively liaise with partners in other functional areas, including Risk Control, Claims, Legal, Regulatory & Compliance, and Reinsurance.

  • Extensive experience in E&S Casualty underwriting and robust understanding of insurance principles and regulations.
  • Outstanding existing marketing relationships wwith experience in production underwriting role. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
  • Possess in-depth underwriting expertise across general classes and is able to manage high volume portfolio.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, mentor and develop junior underwriters.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations.
  • Outstanding collaborative skills in a fast-paced team-centric environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration and presentation skills.
  • The ability to travel a minimum of 20% of the time is anticipated.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 132,200 - 257,100.
