Job Description
The High Voltage Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing high voltage systems and equipment to meet established project requirements.
The High Voltage Engineer responsibilities include designing high voltage equipment, performing system analysis, and ensuring design compliance with applicable safety standards.
Ultimately, the role of the High Voltage Engineer is to ensure the safe and effective operation of high voltage equipment and systems, in compliance with industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Provide conceptual design of high voltage equipment and systems to support project requirements.
• Develop technical requisitions, undertake technical bid evaluations, issuance of purchase orders and review/approval of vendor documentation as part of the procurement process for high voltage equipment
• Perform complex calculations utilizing either manual or computer-based software to determine system specifications and to validate conceptual design.
• Ensure safety protocols are followed in the design, installation, and maintenance of high voltage systems
• Prepare contract scopes of work to be issued to support installation and testing of high voltage equipment
• Perform system analysis and troubleshooting to diagnose and correct issues that may be identified or encountered during equipment fabrication, construction and final commissioning of high voltage systems
• Check and review vendor data and drawings from other disciplines
• Provide assistance to the Lead Engineer in the areas of schedule, estimate, material forecasting, progress reporting, meetings, and procurement activities
• Perform self-check of completed work and provide guidance to less experienced engineers
• Work with project/client/field, procurement, permit, and subcontract activities
Basic Job Requirements
• Proven work experience as a High Voltage Engineer or a similar role in the Electrical Engineering field.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and high voltage systems.
• Proficient in using design and calculation software.
• Excellent understanding of safety regulations and procedures in high voltage engineering.
• Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code and governing regulations and industry practices
• A proven record of increasing responsibility and being a problem solver
• A self-starter and able to work independently
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse team of individuals
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
