As a Building Engineer (Chief), you will oversee all maintenance operations for a brand-new, ultra-luxury high-rise residential community in Boston's Seaport, a flagship property within one of the city's most prominent developments. This is a full-service, highly amenitized environment where operational excellence and presentation standards are critical.
You will be responsible for the performance, maintenance, and reliability of all building systems, including central plant operations, HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, building automation systems (BAS), electrical infrastructure, plumbing, structural components, and life safety systems. Ensuring these complex systems operate efficiently and proactively will be a key component of your success in this role.
This position is ideal for someone with strong experience managing central building systems in a high-rise environment who takes pride in preventive maintenance, attention to detail, and delivering a seamless, high-end resident experience behind the scenes.
Working closely with the General Manager and on-site leadership, you will be a key member of the building's leadership team, with support from a broader local and national network. This is not an isolated role. You will operate within a collaborative, well-supported environment focused on long-term success and operational excellence.
We are seeking candidates with experience in high-rise residential, luxury hospitality, commercial, or mixed-use environments, particularly those with hands-on responsibility for central building systems and other complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure. Experience supporting buildings with elevated service expectations and sophisticated operating systems is strongly preferred.

Your Responsibilities:

- Regular attendance and punctuality
- Maintains a safe and secure environment throughout the building(s).
- Supervises, trains and directs maintenance staff through work orders.
- Plans, monitors , and appraises job results; coaches, counsels and disciplines employees.
- Assesses repair needs and estimated time needed for repair (including evaluating problems to determine if professional assistance or further instruction is needed to complete task/repair).
- Mo nitors the functions of service contractors and building repair and maintenance contractors.
- Inventories and acquisitions maintenance supplies.
- Maintains disaster preparedness by identifying potential problems, developing response plans, managing crises.
- On call availability for emergencies and projects as assigned by Manager.
- Schedules and assigns work responsibilities to employees to meet shift requirements.
- Requests materials, tools, and supplies needed for a job.
- Develops and maintains resource management plan which outlines short-term and long-term requirements for repair & maintenance, capital replacement, and capital requirements.
- Maintains all fire protection and security systems, to include required maintenance, inspections, and documentation.
- Inspects all emergency equipment to ensure compliance.
- Records and evaluates preventive maintenance activities and programs.
- Oversees the construction, installation, and preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Observes /evaluates corrective maintenance or repair on equipment.
- Orients and trains employees to perform maintenance activities and tasks.
- Ensures highly efficient safety program, with emphasis on awareness, discipline, and compliance. Overall safety program to conform with OSHA standards, applicable building safety manual, and other safety venues as deemed appropriate
- Performs performance evaluations for all maintenance staff
- Supervises all administration relative to facility maintenance, including preparation of budgets, work schedules, goals and objectives , and purchase/requisition documents. Provides related management information products as requested
- Record and report all unusual and irregular conditions to the Manager.
- Maintain cordial, professional manner in dealing with residents, contractors, Management, etc.
- Ensure all equipment, supplies and materials are working neatly and orderly.
- All other duties as directed by the Board of Directors/Trustees or Management.
Supervisory Responsibility :
On-site staff where applicable.
Education & Experience :
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred. Technical background from university or vocational sources a plus.
- HVAC or other training or certification may be required
- Minimum 3 - 5 years' experience in management of maintenance department or facility
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry trades.
- Must be able to operate tools and equipment related to facility maintenance.
- Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Compensation :
$70.00 - $75.00 / hour
