OverviewThe Heavy Rents Manager is responsible for driving the profitable growth of Altorfer's Heavy Rents business through strategic fleet management, pricing, utilization optimization, and market share expansion. This position will lead initiatives to increase rental revenue, improve Percentage of Rental Revenue Opportunity (PRRO), maximize return on fleet investment, and ensure Altorfer maintains a competitive position in the heavy equipment rental marketplace.The Heavy Rents Manager will make data-driven decisions regarding fleet acquisition, fleet sizing, rental rates, equipment deployment, and asset lifecycle management. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of rental business metrics, heavy equipment applications, customer needs, and market conditions.
Basic Duties
Business Growth & Market Share
- Develop and execute strategies to grow Heavy Rents rental revenue in a profitable manner.
- Increase Altorfer's share of rental market opportunity through strategic fleet placement and customer engagement.
- Monitor competitive market conditions and recommend actions to improve market position.
- Support annual business planning and long-range growth initiatives for the Heavy Rents business.
Fleet Management & Planning
- Determine Heavy Rents fleet size, composition, and growth requirements.
- Develop equipment order forecasts and fleet replacement plans.
- Make recommendations regarding fleet additions, disposals, and roll-out timing.
- Optimize fleet deployment across territories to maximize utilization and profitability.
- Evaluate equipment performance and adjust fleet strategies based on market demand.
Pricing & Profitability
- Establish and maintain rental rate structures that balance competitiveness and profitability.
- Evaluate market conditions and competitive pricing to ensure optimal rate positioning.
- Monitor fleet profitability and recommend pricing adjustments as necessary.
- Drive improvements in financial performance through disciplined asset management.
Utilization & Performance Management
- Monitor and manage key rental performance indicators, including:
- Physical Utilization
- Financial Utilization
- Return on Investment (ROI)
- Fleet Age
- Rental Revenue Growth
- Profitability Metrics
- Analyze utilization trends and implement corrective actions to improve fleet performance.
- Utilize rental business analytics to support strategic decision making
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with rental coordinators, sales representatives, marketing, and operational teams to achieve business objectives.
- Provide support and guidance regarding fleet strategy, pricing, and rental opportunities.
- Develop relationships with Caterpillar representatives, vendors, and key customers.
- Promote a culture focused on customer satisfaction, safety, profitability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Equipment & Application Expertise
- Maintain a strong understanding of heavy equipment applications, customer requirements, and industry trends.
- Provide guidance on machine selection, attachments, and work tools to support customer solutions.
- Evaluate emerging equipment categories and technologies for potential fleet inclusion.
- Work closely with sales, operations, and customers to ensure the fleet aligns with market demand.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, Agriculture, Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in equipment rental, equipment sales, fleet management, construction equipment operations, or a related industry.
- Experience managing fleet assets and financial performance preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment, work tools, and their applications.
- Knowledge of rental business principles and performance metrics.
- Ability to analyze utilization, profitability, and return on investment data.
- Understanding of fleet lifecycle management and equipment valuation.
- Strong financial and business acumen.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency with business intelligence, fleet management, and reporting tools.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
This position is primarily office-based and requires frequent computer use.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and operate standard office equipment.
Occasional travel to Altorfer facilities, customer sites, and equipment yards.
Must be able to safely enter shop and construction environments and utilize required PPE.
Ability to occasionally inspect equipment and work around heavy machinery in a safe manner.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
