OT: 4 hours daily, paid out at $93.75/hr.
Schedule: 14X14 - 12-hour days
Night Shift Premium: $1.25/hr.

Big Country Equipment is hiring an experienced licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Equipment Technician) to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining and construction equipment. This is a rotational field-service opportunity working a 14-days-on, 14-days-off schedule. The successful technician will troubleshoot and repair off-road heavy equipment using company-provided tools while supporting customer operations safely and professionally. Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered with strong, relevant experience repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities: - Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining and construction equipment.
- Perform field-service repairs on multiple equipment types and brands, including Caterpillar (CAT), Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
- Repair or replace transmission components, differential gears, driveshafts, and related drivetrain components.
- Use computerized diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical information to identify required repairs.
- Complete scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled work orders.
- Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
- Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
- Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain all required trade certifications, licences, and site training.
- Report to work fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned field-service work safely.
- All related duties as assigned.
Requirements: - Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
- Recent field-service experience is preferred, ideally working independently from a service truck.
- A valid provincial trade certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician is preferred.
- Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered when they have relevant heavy-equipment repair experience.
- Red Seal certification is an asset but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
- Experience repairing mining equipment is preferred; however, strong construction, forestry, agricultural, or other off-road equipment experience may also be considered.
- Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, or John Deere equipment is preferred.
- Experience repairing surface drills, electric shovels, or hydraulic shovels is an asset.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain systems.
- Experience using computerized diagnostic software and testing equipment.
All Successful Candidates Must:- Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
- Pass a Criminal Record check.
- Provide a clean 5-year driver's abstract.
- Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
- Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
