Heavy Civil / Highway Sr. Superintendent
Draper, Utah
Full Time

The Sr. Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field leadership of heavy civil/highway construction operations.
This role ensures that field activities:
Meet safety standards
Follow project specifications
Stay on budget and on schedule
Maintain high-quality workmanship
Are coordinated efficiently across crews and subcontractors
Projects include roadway construction, dirt excavation, utility installation, grading, structures, and large-scale infrastructure.
Essential Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance
  • Understand, enforce, and execute all Safety Policies
  • Create Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for assigned tasks
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure proper documentation
  • Comply with Dust Control, SWPPP, and environmental regulations
  • Ensure all required inspections, quality testing, and compliance steps are properly scheduled and documented

Field Operations & Scheduling
  • Schedule and order materials, equipment, inspections, and workforce
  • Ensure project progresses according to schedule, specifications, and production goals
  • Directly supervise field crews (dirt, pipe, structures) to ensure quality workmanship
  • Conduct regular site walks to track progress and identify field needs

Coordination & Communication
  • Confer with subcontractors, crew leads, and project personnel
  • Interpret specifications and plans to prevent construction delays
  • Coordinate multiple phases of construction efficiently
  • Communicate project status to the project management team

Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Manage Forepersons and craft personnel assigned to the project
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Training employees
    • Planning and directing work
    • Addressing concerns and resolving problems
    • Ensuring compliance with company policies and laws

Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet all of the following:
  • Minimum 5 years earthwork and roadway superintendent or foreperson experience leading heavy equipment crews (grader, track hoe, loader, backhoe, dirt/pipe crews)
  • Minimum 10 years experience in ALL phases of roadway construction, including:
    • Dirt excavation
    • Grading
    • Underground utilities
  • Minimum 10 years reading blueprints and specifications for roadway/earthwork projects
  • Must pass driver's license and criminal background check

Skills and Certifications: Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

  • Ability to lead crews in a fast-paced, dynamic field environment
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple field operations simultaneously
