SWC Healthcare Systems Engineer

Reports to: Director of Engineering
Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Primary Role

Responsible for executing all company goals and objectives as they relate to the design, documentation, and delivery of healthcare and low-voltage critical communications systems. Interfaces with all company departments, including sales, operations, and accounting, to provide accurate, specification-compliant engineering and documentation for active and proposed healthcare projects. Supports pre-sales activities with technical solutions and drawing packages as needed.

Candidates must demonstrate deep experience with detailed device layouts, cabling, and system integration typical of healthcare low-voltage integrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with system engineers and project managers to develop comprehensive system designs and complete construction documentation for assigned healthcare projects
  • Support the Sales Department during the sales process by providing technical guidance, drawings, and preliminary submittals for proposals and quotations
  • Prepare, submit, and track product data, shop drawings, and compliance documentation for submittals and project change orders
  • Demonstrate expertise in creating submittals and shop drawings for installation on retrofit healthcare projects and for approval on new healthcare construction projects
  • Update system drawings and records throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring accurate as-builts and closeout documentation
  • Validate device locations and system scope through field verification and coordination with installation teams
  • Ensure all work strictly adheres to current project specifications, company standards, and the latest contract documents
  • Maintain rigorous self-review and peer review of all deliverables; enforce discipline in hours tracking and project note documentation
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, including workflow automation, quality control checklists, and adoption of new engineering tools
  • Foster a team environment by providing mentorship and support to junior engineers and drafters
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by company management


Accountability

The Healthcare Systems Engineer is accountable to the Director of Engineering. Secondary accountability is to other management team members, employees, and customers of the company.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years' work history in a designer role for a low-voltage integrator specializing in healthcare communications systems
  • This position is not for an electrical engineer; candidates must have detailed integrator experience, including device selection, cabling, and system layout
  • Proficient in generating complete construction documentation sets from concept through closeout, including device layouts, risers, cable schedules, and as-builts
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD (2024 or newer), Bluebeam, and Smartsheet
  • Deep understanding of project specification compliance, submittal processes, and construction administration
  • Expertise in creating high-quality submittals and shop drawings for both retrofit and new healthcare construction projects is required
  • Proven ability to manage project change orders, hours tracking, and documentation workflows
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, EET, or related field preferred
  • Relevant certifications such as Rauland, NICET, BICSI, or CTS are a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other standard office software
  • Experience with AI-driven QC, Power BI dashboards, or process automation tools is advantageous
  • Minimal travel required
