Full Job Description
Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Health System Director, Research Enterprise Operations and Administration.

The Research Enterprise Strategy team within the Office of Science & Research (OSR), under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President for Research Strategy, supports the advancement of institutional research priorities by applying analytical approaches to inform strategy and guide decision-making across the research enterprise.

This position is responsible for identifying data requirements, designing data collection tools, constructing and managing databases, conducting statistical analyses, and presenting findings to senior leadership.

The role also serves as a key liaison between the Science Strategy group and enterprise partners in Business Intelligence (BI) and the Enterprise Analytics, Reporting and Reference Data Subcommittee (EARRS) to support the development and maintenance of institutional research dashboards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research Dashboards & Business Intelligence
    • Lead the design, development and maintenance of research dashboards and self-service analytic tools
    • Establish best practices for dashboard usability, visualization standards, and user adoption.
    • Ensure dashboards are aligned with institutional KPI and strategic goals
    • Act as business lead with Research IT for dashboard related projects and work with leaders in both OSR and Research IT to prioritize projects and deliver on business needs
    • Collaborate with departments and OSR leadership to identify opportunities for dashboard enhancement and improvements
  • Research Data Governance
    • Lead development and implementation of research-focused data and KPI governance framework
    • Collaborate with research data owners to establish standardized data definitions for key research data systems and metrics
    • Partner with institutional IT and enterprise data governance teams to align research data strategy with broader university standards
    • Promote data literacy and consistent metric interpretation across the research enterprise
    • Identify potential data gaps or inefficiencies in our existing systems and work with data owners to develop new sources or update existing source to fill the required needs
  • Strategic Analytics & Reporting
    • Design and implement advanced analytics and predictive modeling to support strategic initiatives and institutional goals including (but not limited to):
      • Research funding forecasts and portfolio diversification
      • Grant submission success probability modeling
      • Faculty productivity and effort analysis
    • Work with OSR leadership and the departmental leadership to identify trends, risks and growth opportunities within our research mission
    • Lead data collection and analysis related to departmental performance for Research Mission?s snapshot goals. Communicate mid-year and end of year results to Strategy, Planning & Business Development and the departments. Assist stakeholders with any question related to research performance data
    • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to reduce duplication of analytic efforts and promote enterprise alignment
    • Champion innovation in predictive analytics, automation, and advanced data modelling.
    • Develop research analytics group with OSR that would improve collaboration, share knowledge and improve consistency and quality of data analytics and reporting in the research mission
    • Act as an internal champion and resource for the Department Administrators with respect to understanding and utilizing the internal grants dashboard. Collaborates with Department Administrators to ensure that the dashboards accurately reflect department statistics and faculty data.
    • Work closely with predictive analytics, IT and AI teams to identify opportunities for improvement of existing metrics and analysis
  • Relates well to all kinds of people at all levels both inside and outside the organization.
  • Synthesizes complex information to communicate project deliverables in an easy digestible way.
  • Demonstrates a willingness and ability to mentor junior staff members.
  • Maintains the Office of Science & Research departmental culture by acting as a role model for team members through positive attitude, willingness to work at all levels, and commitment to the team.
  • Effectively communicates and develops a professional level of cooperation across the organization determining the best approach to drive project success through formal channels and informal networks.
  • Recognize the technical, business, and operational impacts of major decisions, and providing analyses, consultation and/or subject-matter expertise as decision support to senior leadership and internal clients


Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a
  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Healthcare Administration or in a related field.
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare, academic medicine, research operations, analytics, or institutional strategy
  • Demonstrated experience in PowerPoint and Excel (including advanced functions, such as complex formulas, pivot tables, graphing).
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to translate concepts into practice.
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights, and communicate these insights to different stakeholders with varying priorities and goals
  • Attention to detail is critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to overcome roadblocks and develop consensus in solutions where there may be a variety competing interests or viewpoints.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of departments across the School of Medicine.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high quality product on time consistently.
  • Experience with databases, data analysis, statistical and specialized software. In particular, experience with SQL Developer, Microsoft Visio, Tableau and Filemaker is preferred

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $152,240.27 - $262,614.25 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
