Position Summary:
The Manager, Health, Safety & Sustainability is responsible for developing, implementing, and leading company-wide health, safety, environmental, and sustainability programs that protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and support organizational sustainability goals. This position partners with leaders across the business to foster a culture of safety, reduce operational risk, improve environmental performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that support employee well-being and responsible business practices. This role provides strategic direction, leadership, and oversight for workplace safety, compliance, emergency preparedness, environmental stewardship, and sustainability reporting.
Job Functions:
• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs across all facilities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, local, state, and federal regulations.
• Lead safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, and hazard identification initiatives.
• Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
• Monitor regulatory changes and update company policies and practices as needed.
• Maintain required records, permits, certifications, and compliance documentation.
• Develop emergency response, business continuity, and crisis management programs.
• Develop and execute sustainability strategies aligned with organizational goals and ESG commitments.
• Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental performance metrics, including energy usage, waste reduction, recycling, water conservation, and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Identify opportunities to improve resource efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
• Lead sustainability projects focused on waste minimization, energy conservation, emissions reduction, and responsible resource management.
• Coordinate sustainability reporting initiatives and support external audits, certifications, and stakeholder reporting requirements.
• Research and recommend sustainability best practices and emerging environmental trends.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, communication, and leadership accountability.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs, including new employee orientation, forklift certification, emergency response, and regulatory-required training.
• Partner with leadership teams to establish safety goals and performance expectations.
• Monitor key safety and sustainability performance indicators and develop improvement plans.
• Lead safety committees and encourage employee participation in health, safety, and sustainability initiatives.
• Manage contractor safety programs, pre-qualification requirements, site safety orientations, and compliance monitoring.
• Partner with HR, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators to manage workers' compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and injury reduction initiatives.
• Experience supporting distribution, warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, or large-scale facilities operations.
• Demonstrated ability to influence organizational culture and drive behavioral-based safety initiatives through leadership engagement and accountability.
• Experience with DOT compliance, fleet safety programs, driver qualification files, and transportation-related regulatory requirements.
• Lead and manage health, safety, and sustainability team members and associated resources.
• Establish departmental goals aligned with organizational priorities.
• Coach, mentor, and develop employees to maximize performance and engagement.
• Manage departmental budgets, projects, and vendor relationships.
Required Skills:

Education & Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, Business, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHMM, OSHA certifications, or sustainability credentials preferred.
• 7+ years of experience in health, safety, environmental, sustainability, facilities, manufacturing, distribution, or related operations.
• 3+ years of leadership, supervisory, or program management experience.
• Demonstrated success leading safety, compliance, or sustainability initiatives that improved organizational performance.
• Experience with ESG reporting, greenhouse gas emissions tracking, sustainability metrics, or environmental management systems preferred.
