Job Description

The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for providing Health and Safety guidance and support to the manufacturing operations at our Toronto manufacturing facility.

The H&S Specialist plays a pivotal role in encouraging and ensuring the continuous improvement of Health and Safety performance at S&C by conducting regular audits, identifying key risks, recommending and preparing actions plans, and working with the manufacturing team to ensure full compliance. The individual provides advice and guidance on Health & Safety matters for our Canadian division by reviewing trends and target areas for improvement and deliver Health and Safety training.

Compensation

The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $96778 - $128225. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training.
This position may also be eligible for S&C's annual incentive plan (AIP). AIP amounts are variable and are dependent on both company and individual performance, subject to eligibility criteria. The target bonus percentage for this role is 5% of annual base earnings.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage policies, procedures and reporting systems for Manufacturing Safety program. Continually review these to ensure consistency with standards, legislation, regulatory changes, safety requirements, industry best practice and the needs of the company.
  • Maintain records of third-party contracts relevant to health, safety, and environmental issues and legislation including, but not limited to: ISNetworld and Avetta
  • Produce monthly analysis of safety documentation and statistics.
  • Perform safety monitoring and interpret data, prepare written reports, documenting testing methodology, observations, results, and recommendations.
  • Review all incident investigation reports and make suggestions to prevent reoccurrence and assist in the development of corrective action.
  • Research and stay current with health and safety industry trends; identify opportunities to be innovative in program development and delivery
  • Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee; encourage worker input and involvement in a meaningful manner.
  • Conduct internal manufacturing environment) safety inspections and audits as prescribed and follow up with the required corrective actions.
  • Participate in manufacturing meetings to discuss workplace safety and regulatory concerns and opportunities.

We are looking for an individual who has:
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental (EHS) Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working within EHS capacity.
  • Experience working within the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of safety work practices along with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its Regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven ability to coach, train, and mentor to a variety of audiences (production team, senior management, and corporate staff).
  • Flexibility to provide health and safety support on the day and afternoon shift as needed.


Physical Effort:

Normal or frequent minor physical effort is required for the day-to-day activity in the workplace. May involve standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs and lifting/moving/using objects or equipment up to 20lbs

Work Environment:
Acceptable working environment with minor or almost no disagreeable or challenging working conditions as part of everyday expected levels (all jobs will occasionally experience undesirable or disagreeable events).
