Reporting directly to the Wells Health & Safety Manager, this role acts as the primary HSE resource on location, partnering closely with rig managers, company men, and contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations. The supervisor plays a critical role in executing corporate HSE strategy at the rig site, reinforcing a strong, proactive, and risk-based safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

The supervisor oversees the day-to-day execution of HSE programs on drilling rigs and completions sites. They provide visible, hands-on HSE support during critical operations, ensuring HSE considerations are embedded in daily drilling and frac activities. Ensuring strict adherence to all applicable HSE regulations, company policies, and standards on location is a primary duty. They facilitate hazard identification processes, including Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments, and ensure effective mitigation plans are implemented before high-risk tasks.

Serving as the initial point of contact for field incidents, the supervisor leads or participates in incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and tracks corrective actions to completion. They maintain a strong, consistent presence on drilling and completions sites to reinforce HSE expectations and behaviors. Building trusted relationships with site supervisors, operators, and contractors is essential to drive engagement, accountability, and a culture of open reporting for near misses and hazards.

The role involves monitoring contractor HSE performance on-site for drilling and completions activities, ensuring all contractors consistently meet the company's HSE expectations, standards, and onboarding requirements. The supervisor delivers field-level HSE training programs and safety meetings, such as safety stand-downs and pre-tour meetings, while mentoring site personnel to strengthen their HSE capability and awareness. Additionally, they support emergency response execution for drilling and completions operations, participating in site-specific drills and serving as a key HSE resource during active incident response.

A key leadership responsibility of this role is the direct supervision and development of Field HSE Representatives assigned to drilling and completions locations. The supervisor provides day-to-day direction, coaching, and performance oversight to ensure Field HSE Representatives are effectively executing their duties on location, maintaining consistent HSE standards, and continuing to grow their technical and interpersonal capabilities.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • 7 or more years of HSE experience in upstream oil and gas, with a strong, specific focus on drilling and completions operations. Demonstrated experience executing HSE programs in fast-paced, high-risk field environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory frameworks including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state agencies (e.g., Texas Railroad Commission).
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis capability. Proven ability to effectively engage field personnel, build trust, and drive behavioral and cultural change.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to manage competing priorities on active locations. Demonstrated ability to directly supervise, coach, and develop Field HSE Representatives.
  • Experience providing day-to-day direction and performance oversight to field-based direct reports.
