Job DescriptionYour OpportunityStantec is seeking a Healthcare Planner to join our Houston studio. This role is ideal for a planner who brings both strategic thinking and a strong understanding of clinical operations to complex healthcare environments.
Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, you will lead planning efforts or play a key role, depending on project scale and complexity. You will work across a range of project types - from community hospitals and ambulatory care centers to large academic medical campuses - partnering closely with clients, clinicians, and internal teams to translate operational goals into efficient, adaptable, and future-ready healthcare environments, including work within active hospital settings and across system-wide initiatives.
Your Key Responsibilities- Lead planning efforts for key departments or project components across multiple healthcare projects
- Facilitate clinical user group meetings and stakeholder workshops, building alignment across diverse teams
- Translate clinical workflows, volumes, and operational goals into functional layouts and planning strategies
- Develop space programs, adjacency diagrams, and departmental planning concepts
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to integrate planning with design and building systems
- Support campus, prototype, and system-level master planning initiatives
- Guide projects through healthcare regulatory and code requirements
- Contribute to design solutions that enhance patient experience, staff wellbeing, and operational performance
- Participate in client presentations, interviews, and project pursuits
- Mentor and support the professional growth of emerging healthcare planners
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials- 5-12 years of healthcare planning experience, including hospital and/or ambulatory care projects
- Strong understanding of clinical operations, departmental relationships, and patient flow
- Experience leading user group meetings and building consensus among diverse stakeholders
- Experience working on hospital renovations, phased construction, or projects within active healthcare environments
- Interest in contributing to or developing health system standards, prototypes, or system-wide planning strategies
- Familiarity with implementing healthcare codes and guidelines
- Ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and detailed execution
- Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam and other planning/visualization tools preferred
Education and Experience- Master's degree in Architecture or bachelor's degree in support of licensure criteria required
- Registered Architect preferred
- EDAC & LEED Accreditation preferred
