Your Opportunity:

As a Health Information Management Professional - Data Quality (DQ)/Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) Specialist, you will ensure quality and integrity in accordance with provincial directives and Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI) rules and guidelines, in the Provincial Clinical Information System (Connect Care) and the Provincial Coding and Abstracting system (PCAS). Through collaboration, education, and technical expertise, the specialist ensures data integrity, supports accurate coding and documentation practices, facilitates compliance with regulatory standards, and provides guidance to data collection staff and clinical providers. Applicants will be required to write and pass a provincial coding proficiency test with a minimum score of 80% and perform a pre-hire skills assessment with a minimum score of 80% prior to advancing to the interview. Note: Location negotiable within the province of Alberta. Key accountabilities include, but not limited to: Clinical documentation and coded data reviews in collaboration with key stakeholders for continuous quality improvement and efficiencies with a patient centric focus. Collaborates with Provincial Advisors and other key stakeholders in the development and implementation of DQ and CDI standards ensuring best practices are understood and adhered to.

You will be responsible for the coordination of daily operations as well as training new staff in your assigned area. You will deliver operational guidance and support to ensure that clinical information is timely, accurate and valid.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of current Canadian Coding Standards and Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) and National Ambulatory Care Reporting Standards (NACRS) Abstracting Manuals for the collection of diagnoses, interventions and specific data elements. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and a demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Ability to work independently with strong organizational, time management, analytical, and technical skills to effectively handle demands of workload and deadlines, working effectively under pressure and showing good judgment. Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications:
3 - 5 years minimum coding experience with ICD-10-CA/CCI. Experience with Connect Care (EPIC) and 3M HDM abstracting system. Certificate of completion from Coding Specialist Program, Coding Refresher or other coding & classification program. Experience in conducting formal data quality audits and presentations of findings.
