Job Summary Join our dynamic team at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), where your passion for public health can make a tangible impact on the well-being of all Minnesotans. The Health Improvement Strategic Support Coordinator provides strategic coordination, analysis, and project leadership for the Health Improvement Bureau (HIB), which spans the Child and Family Health, Injury Prevention and Mental Health, and Health Promotion and Chronic Disease divisions. Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Overseeing the bureau's strategic dashboard and performance measurement
- Leading risk assessment and mitigation planning
- Advancing foundational funding and legislative initiatives across the three divisions
- Steering strategic planning at both bureau and division levels, fostering team cohesion, and strengthening local partnerships in coordination with the PHSP division
- Assisting the Assistant Commissioner with bureau-related, multi-layered leadership engagements and other executive priorities.
In accordance withHR/LR Policy #1422 Telework, this position is eligible for up to 50% telework for applicants who live in Minnesota or in a bordering state within 50 miles of the assigned work location. Candidatesresidingoutside of Minnesota further than 50 miles of the assigned work location at the time of application must be able torelocateto Minnesota within 30 days of their start date. The telework policy may exempt employees who live more than 50 miles from their primary work location from the 50% in-office requirement, depending on job requirements, helping the State of Minnesota access top talent across the state. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of strategic coordination experience including:
- Designing performance measures, building and maintaining a strategic dashboard, and evaluating program results
- Data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, SharePoint, Smartsheet)
- Risk assessment and mitigation-planning
- Grant development and coordination
- Strategic Planning
A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field can substituted for 1 year of experience. A master's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field can substitute for 2 years of experience.
Qualifications to be further assessed during the interview process: - Human relations sufficient to build networks of colleagues throughout the public and private sectors and to effectively persuade partners, officials, and interested parties who hold complex and sometimes competing agendas.
- Ability to communicate orally sufficient to mobilize action, advise and coach staff, resolve differences of opinion, and present to leadership and at public forums.
- Ability to adapt to continuous organizational and program change, and to work constructively under pressure and cope with ambiguity and setbacks.
- Ability to lead cross-division work and secure the engagement of others without direct supervisory authority.
- Interest and ability to apply diversity, equity, and inclusion principles across all initiatives and projects.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with public policy principles and public administration theory sufficient to oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of public program and reporting systems.
- Experience with public health programming and Minnesota's public health infrastructure.
- Experience writing reports, briefings, proposals, legislative or budget language sufficient to describe, promote, and justify current and future bureau initiatives and outcomes.
- Experience using the principles for advancing health equity.
