Full Job Description
Summary:

Goldbelt C6 is seeking a Health Communications Specialist I to provide health communications and digital media support within the Office of the Director (OD).

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Translate complex data outcomes, reports, and methodologies into plain language for various audiences.
  • Track DHQP data developments across programs (CDC Epicenters, EIP, NHSN, BAA awardees, ARPSP, AR Lab Network, and other systems) and describe relationships among findings.
  • Provide strategic direction for DHQP data communications, including one-year and three-year strategic plans.
  • Develop audience-specific materials (web content, fact sheets, FAQs, talking points, feature stories, Adobe Campaign emails, blog entries, graphics, social media content).
  • Provide consultation support to the DHQP media team for media responses.
  • Coordinate with SMEs and communications professionals across CDC to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Collaborate with other CDC centers and partners on similar data topics to guide communications strategy.
  • Identify and coordinate professional partnerships to improve awareness of DHQP data resources.
  • Review messages and materials for accuracy, consistency, and plain language/risk communication compliance.
  • Collaborate with communications staff across CDC and federal agencies for message consistency.
  • Serve as lead communicator during significant data changes or announcements.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to DHQP communications leadership; track team progress toward strategic goals.
  • Proactively identify, research, and resolve problems; recommend updated strategies.
  • Participate in and provide summaries for meetings as a DHQP communications team representative.
  • Ensure consistency across materials and web pages containing DHQP data.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Able to provide consultation, technical assistance, and training on program and project implementation to internal and external groups.
  • Apply social marketing practices and health communication theories to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication in interpersonal exchanges.
  • Ability to work well independently, be solution-oriented, motivated, and committed to customer and company success.
  • Excellent judgment and decision making, with strong analytical skills; business intuition and business acumen.
  • Advanced use of Adobe and Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four (4) or more years of experience writing and editing in Health Communications or Public Health Education.
  • Experience with current 508 compliance requirements and the Clear Communication Index.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CDC Public Trust Clearance.
  • Participate during CDC response activities and training exercises under direction of the DHQP Team Lead; duties include staffing the EOC desk to help support CDC's mission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Health Education, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working with the CDC is highly desired to understand the culture and environment.

Pay and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $100,000 annually.
