What is the opportunity?

The Head of Wealth Consulting will provide leadership and oversight over strategic initiatives related to enhancing productivity, growth, and efficiency in RBC Wealth Management-US. Consulting areas including, but not limited to, management of the day-to-day activities and functions of the Wealth Management Consulting Team, Internal Wealth Management Consulting Team, Practice Management & Teams Group, and Internal Practice Management & Teams Group. The Head of Wealth Consulting will also partner with the Private Client Group (PCG) field leadership team to provide superior support in the execution of Wealth Management (WM-US) strategic initiatives. This person will assist in driving the team to achieve the highest level of performance and consistency in service; implementing and monitoring key metrics/KPIs to increase performance and accountability of the team; playing a key role in helping PCG leadership recruit new Financial Advisors (FAs) and improve the productivity of existing FAs; driving the adoption of advisory solutions; and leading the client strategies teams. This role leverages both new and existing relationships and opportunities to maximize value for RBC and its partners across departments. This role will be responsible for achieving aggressive key business metrics including increasing Financial Advisor productivity, asset gathering strategies, deepening client relationships, increasing solutions delivered to clients and delivering a profitable planning and service offering.

What will you do?

Strategic Design, Planning and Execution
  • Partners with WM-US senior management to develop; implement and drive strategic priorities, both internally and externally.
  • Serves as key firm leader to drive strategic initiatives to generate results - partners with the Wealth Strategies and Solutions Group, other solution areas (GMR, PAG, CAL, Fixed Income, etc.), and Divisional field leaders to establish key objectives, and drive firm wide priorities in the field and home office.
  • Continually stays abreast of marketplace trends and issues gathered through external and internal networks. Actively monitors and reports on the competitive environment and WM-US' competitive position.
  • Assists product management teams in understanding the field perspective and developing strategy and plans.

Recruitment, Training & Development
  • Trains, develops and assesses the effectiveness of the Client Strategies Team's structure across all Divisions.
  • Leads the development of key messages for the teams to deliver in the field to ensure consistency of message, efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with branch and complex directors to assist with recruiting and in achieving growth objectives.
  • Assists, trains, and motivates new Wealth Management Consultants and PM&T Coaches in deploying RBC Wealth Management's products and services to the field.
  • Provides leadership and ongoing support to Divisional Directors and field leadership for national and regional workshops. Conducts pre-work, follow up-work and presents to FAs when necessary.

Relationship Management
  • Promotes a client focused culture with ethical and professional behavior which will achieve desired client satisfaction levels.
  • Collaborates with leaders across functions to promote the department's capabilities. This flow of information of best practices to and from the department will improve communication, idea sharing and consistency in the solutions and experience delivered.
  • Provides strategic guidance, thought leadership, problem resolution, sales ideas and best practices to the team and to branches/complexes within PCG.
  • Works with RBC leadership to design and ensure productive execution of the complex consulting teams while also working 1:1 with the WMCs to assist them in serving as "quarterbacks" of client strategies team and target efforts based on specific needs of complexes.
  • Ensures vendor and internal relationships are leveraged across strategic initiatives and training/educational/marketing campaigns.
  • Provides support as a subject-matter expert for a specific specialty or type of service.
  • Attends, prepares and participates in client presentations where needed, for relationships with HNW asset potential.


Managerial Excellence
  • Leads the team of professionals to drive advisory business and provides advisors support, guidance and expertise accessing RBC's advisory programs and capabilities.
  • Ensures that employees understand RBC vision, as well as supports and reinforces targeted behaviors that contribute to RBC goals.
  • Provides focus and clarity in establishing individual goals, driving performance management, supporting career development and rewarding strong performance.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have
  • 10+ years of Financial Services experience, preferably in the Wealth Management and/or Private Banking business.
  • 4-year college degree from an accredited university in Finance, Business, Economics, Law or comparable, or equivalent and related experience.
  • Series 7 and 66 securities licenses or ability to obtain licenses.
  • Excellent understanding of the financial services industry and branch office/financial advising responsibilities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and advisor desktop tools.
  • Must possess personal gravitas to engage senior professionals and high to ultra-high net worth clients.
  • Proven leadership and motivational skills required to lead high energy sales teams that are based across the USA.
  • Proven ability to execute growth initiatives through field based sales teams.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills with experience in public speaking (media, industry organizations etc.).
  • Strong understanding of the wealth management platform including fee-based consulting, mutual funds, money manager programs, insurance, annuities and financial planning.
  • Strong client service perspective with the ability to analyze and anticipate client needs.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced professional environment adapt quickly to rapid changes in technology and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and highly regarded as a professional business partner with clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to impact and influence Senior Leaders, client facing Professionals and functional partners (e.g., Ops, Tech, Compliance, Legal, Finance) in a highly complex, matrixed, global environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong business and internal networks and working relationships in order to identify and implement strategies for business growth.
  • Creative problem solver with a strong solution orientation.

  • Post Graduate Degree (e.g. MBA) and/or completion of investment certification (e.g., CFA, CFP, CIMA).
  • Insurance license a plus as well as Series 24, 8 or 9 & 10.

The expected salary range for this particular position is $140,000-$230,000, depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
