About the roleThe Head, QESH Americas is responsible for leading Quality, Environment, Safety, and Health (QESH) activities across the Americas region, ensuring compliance with Sulzer standards, customer requirements, regulatory obligations, and applicable management system certifications. The role provides strategic and functional leadership to manufacturing sites, service operations, project execution activities, and office locations while driving a culture of safety, quality excellence, environmental stewardship, risk management, and continuous improvement.
Essential Functions- Lead the QESH strategy, objectives, and performance management processes across MTCS Americas.
- Develop and promote a culture where safety is the highest operational priority and quality is embedded in all activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, corporate, MTCS and ChemTech policies, and customer requirements across all Americas locations.
- Maintain and continuously improve integrated management systems including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
- Lead internal audit programs, management reviews, and external certification audits.
- Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive actions.
- Develop and maintain safety, quality, environmental, and compliance training programs.
- Support manufacturing, service operations, and project teams in identifying and mitigating operational risks.
- Establish and monitor regional QESH KPIs, dashboards, and management review processes.
- Produce monthly ESH MIS and QESH reports as necessary.
- Lead environmental compliance activities, sustainability initiatives, and reporting requirements.
- Support field service safety programs, contractor management processes, and customer site compliance requirements.
- Ensure TFS operations are compliant with Sulzer, ChemTech and MTCS ESH requirements.
- Partner with Operations, Service Operations, APT, Sales, and HR to drive operational excellence.
- Lead the regional NCR, CAPA, and Lessons Learned processes across manufacturing, service, and project execution activities.
- Establish and maintain a structured Lessons Learned program for Quality, Environment, Safety, and Health events, audit findings, customer complaints, and project execution issues.
- Ensure lessons learned are communicated, tracked, and incorporated into standards, procedures, training, and best practices across MTCS Americas.
Qualifications- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Safety, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Management, Quality Management, or related discipline required.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Quality, Safety, Environmental, Health, or Operational Excellence leadership roles.
- Minimum 5 years leading multi-site QESH organizations.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, field service, and industrial operations environments.
- Strong knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OSHA requirements, incident investigations, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Success Measures- Major Accident Frequency Rate, Accident Severity Rate and Toal Accident Rate performance is below corporate targets
- Leading Indicator Reporting: Including Near Miss reporting, Safety Observations, Safety Walks and Safety Walks With Management are above target.
