Vanguard is seeking a strategic, client-focused leader to serve as Head of Large, Mid & Core Relationship Management. Reporting to Scott Senseney, this leader will oversee the relationship management organization serving retirement plan sponsors across Vanguard’s Large, Mid and Core Market segments.


This is a highly visible leadership opportunity responsible for strengthening Vanguard’s client relationships, developing an exceptional relationship management organization, and helping shape how Vanguard delivers strategic counsel and differentiated experiences to workplace clients. The role will work closely across Sales, Consultant Relations, Product, Operations and Workplace Solutions leadership to strengthen client retention, satisfaction and growth while bringing client and market insight into the broader business strategy.


What You’ll Do
  • Lead the Large, Mid and Core Market Relationship Management organization, setting the strategy and expectations for how Vanguard engages and supports retirement plan sponsor clients across these segments.
  • Lead and develop leaders and relationship managers, building a high-performing organization focused on strategic client engagement, exceptional service and long-term relationship value.
  • Drive client retention, satisfaction and growth through disciplined relationship management, strategic account planning and a deep understanding of each client’s priorities and evolving needs.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client decision-makers, consultants and key industry stakeholders, representing Vanguard at the executive level across important relationships.
  • Serve as a senior escalation and executive sponsorship point for significant client opportunities, complex relationship issues and strategically important engagements.
  • Partner across Sales, Consultant Relations, Product and Operations to create an integrated client experience and connect client priorities with Vanguard’s broader capabilities.
  • Bring the voice of the client into business decisions, using client and market insights to influence strategy, service enhancements, product priorities and innovation.
  • Strengthen the relationship management operating model, identifying opportunities to improve consistency, effectiveness and the way teams engage with clients across market segments.
  • Build organizational capability and leadership depth, developing talent, strengthening succession pipelines and creating an environment where leaders and relationship managers can grow.
  • Lead through change, helping the organization evolve while maintaining strong client outcomes, business performance and crew engagement.

What It Takes
  • Significant leadership experience within institutional relationship management, retirement services, asset management, wealth management or a related financial services business.
  • Demonstrated experience leading leaders and building high-performing client-facing organizations.
  • Deep understanding of the defined contribution retirement marketplace, institutional client relationships and the broader workplace benefits ecosystem.
  • Proven ability to develop trusted relationships with senior executives, plan sponsors, consultants and other sophisticated institutional stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial orientation with experience driving client retention, relationship growth and strategic account management.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex, highly matrixed environment and influence across sales, product, operations and other business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, develop talent and translate strategy into execution.
  • Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, business judgment and communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Current FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 registrations, together with a Series 24, or the ability to obtain the required registrations within the designated timeframe.

Preferred
  • Experience serving or leading teams responsible for large and complex defined contribution plan sponsor relationships.
  • Experience leading scaled relationship management, account management, client service or related organizations.
  • Experience leading transformation, organizational change or significant business growth initiatives.
  • Advanced degree or relevant professional designation such as an MBA, CFA or CFP.
