Full Job Description
The opportunity

A recent legislative change has unlocked a massive new segment of Canadian immigration - one that potentially affects millions of people who don't yet know they're eligible. We're already capturing this wave, and the growth it's driving is outpacing the operational systems holding the business together. We need someone who can build the finance, HR, and ops backbone to support the business at ten times the scale, without slowing down the teams shipping product and serving clients.

About the role

We're looking for an operator to build and run the operational backbone of a fast-scaling, AI-native legal practice, and to build and lead the team that keeps it running.

CV Labs is growing fast, and that growth is outpacing the systems holding it together. Finance and accounting operations, HR, tooling, vendor and contract management all need a plan that supports our current scale and the scale we're headed for. At the same time, we believe every function at CV Labs should be working in fundamentally AI-native ways, and that shift needs someone who can model what good looks like and bring others along.

This role owns business operations end to end - finance and accounting operations, HR, systems and tooling, and contracts and vendor management - leading a team of four across accounting, IT, and admin, and you'll get pulled into legal ops and AI ops work as the business needs it. You'll report to and partner closely with the General Manager, with autonomy over how these functions are designed and run. We're hiring a high-potential individual who can own this function as the company scales.

What you'll do
  • Lead the team - manage a team of four across accounting, IT, and admin. Set the bar for how the function runs and grow the team as the company scales.
  • Own business operations end to end - finance and accounting operations, HR, systems and tooling, and vendor and contract management. Find where CV Labs is running on tribal knowledge or duct tape and replace it with systems that hold up as the company scales, then make sure they actually get used.
  • Modernize the stack - swap legacy, paper-based processes for modern ops tools (Rippling, Deel, Stripe, Navan, and similar) and automate the manual work in between. This is a core part of the job, not a side project.
  • Get fluent in legal ops - learn the systems that run the practice day to day - government mail, our Command Center, Clio, and the rest of the stack - so you know what's ready to be automated next.
  • Drive change management - getting people to adopt new processes and tools is harder than building them. You'll own the rollout, training, and follow-through that turns a new workflow announcement into a habit.
  • Take on special projects - support high-impact, cross-functional work - things like pricing analysis, vendor consolidation business cases, GTM efficiency deep dives, or operational model builds. These are the problems that sit between Finance, Product, and Ops where the answer isn't obvious and someone needs to go figure it out.
  • Help drive AI adoption, then build it - partner with teams to spot high-impact ways to use AI, and help roll out the tooling and shared resources (skills, plugins, routines) that make adoption practical and repeatable. This starts as support and grows into the core of the role: designing and building the agentic workflows that become how CV Labs operates.
The right person for this role will have
  • Sharp critical thinking and analytical skills - you break problems down, find the root cause, and solve it. You don't just follow a process, you question whether the process should exist at all, and you constantly think in systems.
  • A track record of running operations and leading people - you've designed, built, and run operational or finance/HR processes before, and you've managed a team that executes them. You know what good operational hygiene looks like.
  • Startup-tested - you've operated in a fast-paced startup environment, where the roadmap changes weekly and you have to build structure without slowing the business down.
  • Fluent in modern ops tooling - you've used tools like Rippling, Deel, Navan, or similar to run HR, payroll, and expense/travel, and you know how to move a team off legacy, paper-based systems and onto them. Automating that gap is part of the job to be done.
  • Energized by AI - you're an active AI user with a point of view on what works, and you're excited to rebuild work you've done by hand in an AI-native way. You don't need to be an expert today, but you do need to be curious and have the drive to get good fast.
  • Comfort with contracts and numbers - you've read contracts before, understand what a redline is, and can spot problematic terms without needing a lawyer to translate. You're just as comfortable in a spreadsheet, thinking critically about downstream financial and legal implications either way.
  • A tolerance for ambiguity - you thrive when there's no playbook. You've worked in environments where you had to figure it out as you went, and you have a track record of implementing the right level of structure without slowing the business down.
  • Strong communication across levels - you can present a financial or compliance update to leadership, walk an engineer through a new AI workflow, and discuss contract terms with a vendor in the same week.
  • A builder's instinct - when you see a gap, your first instinct isn't to flag it and move on, it's to start fixing it. You run toward the fire and operate as a high-agency individual.
Bonus points if you have
  • Hands-on finance, accounting, or HR systems experience
  • A JD or LegalTech background
  • Experience operating inside a high-growth, regulated business
  • AI-native - using AI is the first thing you think of when it comes to solutions, not the last.
  • Background in Investment Banking or Consulting with startup experience
Compensation and benefits
  • Base salary of $140,000 - $180,000 CAD, plus performance-based bonus, dependent on level of experience
  • Flexible vacation - take what you need; we care about what you ship, not when you're at your desk
  • Competitive health, dental, and wellness coverage
  • Direct access to leadership from day one, with room to grow the function as the company scales
