Full Job Description
You will be the Engineering & Technology (E&T) Manager for Design Services (Checking) within Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC), Hardware Design & Analysis (HDA). You will lead a team of approximately ten Design Checkers and Liaison (Workflow Coordinator) Engineers - predominantly mechanical-engineering professionals - who safeguard drawing and model integrity and move engineering change packages to release across MFC programs. Our team is the technical conscience of the release process: we protect product quality while accelerating how fast good designs reach the factory floor. This is a pivotal leadership role at a pivotal time. MFC is migrating to a Model-Based Enterprise (MBE), shifting authority from the 2D drawing to the annotated 3D model, and modernizing the engineering change release process. You will champion that transformation for the checking and liaison discipline - upskilling your team, enabling a faster and more consistent release process, and helping define what world-class checking looks like in a model-based world. What You Will Be Doing • People leadership - lead, coach, mentor, and advocate for a high-performing team of Design Checkers and Liaison Engineers; own recruitment, onboarding, performance assessment, salary planning, workload balancing, and recognition/development. • Resource & program coverage - ensure every MFC program has the right number of qualified checkers and liaison engineers, balancing staffing across multiple concurrent programs and priorities. • Talent development - define and grow competency, certification, and career-development pathways for checking and liaison roles; build the bench strength MFC needs as senior talent retires. • Model-Based Enterprise migration - champion the organizational strategy and migration to Model-Based Enterprise (MBD/MBE); lead the upskilling of your team on model-based definition, semantic PMI/GD&T, and model-based checking so the model becomes the authoritative source of truth. • Release acceleration - drive checking, peer-review, and workflow-coordination consistency that shortens the engineering change release cycle (CR→CN); promote right-sized approvers, concurrent review, need-date prioritization, first-pass quality, and reduced rework. • Design integrity - own drawing/model integrity as a discipline - checking standards, a shared "definition of ready," defect classification, and first-pass-yield - grounded in ASME Y14.5 GD&T, ASME Y14.100, and program requirements. • Release execution - oversee drawing/model releases; support Change Screening and Configuration Control Boards (CSB/CCB) and design reviews; disposition Change Requests, coordinate Change Notices, and resolve technical issues with internal and external stakeholders and IPTs. • 1LMX & digital thread - identify and implement solutions that bring each MFC site in line with 1LMX and enterprise digital-thread objectives; leverage Windchill/dPLM data, dashboards, and predictive analytics to manage performance. • Technical conscience - serve as the technical conscience and advocate for checking in internal and external discussions; drive continuous-improvement initiatives that enhance affordability, schedule performance, and product quality while ensuring compliance with security, safety, and quality standards. Basic Qualifications • Engineering management or engineering team-lead experience - including workload/task planning, employee development and mentoring, and/or performance feedback. • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. • Working knowledge and practical application of ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) and ASME Y14.100 engineering drawing practices. • Experience creating, reviewing, or checking engineering drawings, models, parts lists, and specifications. • Proficiency with 3D CAD (Creo or similar) and PLM tools (Windchill/dPLM or similar) used for engineering release. • Knowledge of the engineering change process (Change Requests, Change Notices, CSB/CCB) and Configuration Management principles. • Demonstrated commitment to Model-Based Definition / Model-Based Enterprise (MBD/MBE) adoption, or equivalent digital-transformation experience. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences. • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required). Desired Skills • Prior people-management experience leading engineers, checkers, or a multidisciplinary technical team. • Experience as a Design Checker, Liaison/Workflow Coordinator, or Configuration/Data Management professional. • Hands-on experience leading or supporting an MBD/MBE or legacy-drawing up-conversion effort (e.g., DSR-6, ASME Y14.41, MIL-STD-31000). • Experience improving engineering release cycle time - right-sized approvers, concurrent review, peer review, need-date prioritization, and rework reduction. • Familiarity with Windchill workflow administration (e.g., Change Admin roles), ModelCheck, and release performance dashboards/analytics (Tableau). • Knowledge of DoD contract requirements and MIL-STD documentation. • Familiarity with additional PLM/CAD ecosystems (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, 3DEXPERIENCE) supporting cross-site and cross-BA collaboration. • Experience developing training, competency models, or certification pathways for a technical workforce. • Strong interpersonal skills, business acumen, and whole-systems thinking; proven ability to influence across multi-functional teams without direct authority. • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a one-team mindset. Pay Information Full-Time Salary Range: $129000.00 - $239600.00 The salary range for this position is as listed on the requisition. Please note that the salary information listed is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market(work location) and business considerations when extending an offer. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics. • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays.
