Hardware Engineer - Optics
This role has been designed as ''Onsite' with an expectation that you will primarily work from an HPE office.
Job Description:Overview:
HPE Networking is seeking a talented and experienced Optical Hardware Engineer to join its Optical Engineering team in Sunnyvale, CA.
This individual will be a subject matter expert in 100G/400G/800G/1.6T pluggable optical/electrical transceiver and cable assembly interconnects and be responsible for module level specifications and test verification across HPE's switching, routing and security platforms.
Location: This is a hybrid position working up to 3 days in a lab in our Sunnyvale, Cal. office.
Responsibilities:- Develop pluggable optical/electrical transceiver and cable assembly specifications and requirements based on industry standards and MSAs, e.g. IEEE, OIF, SNIA SFF.
- Engage with optics transceiver vendors on HPE's optics transceiver specifications and requirements for optical product definition.
- Creates optics module test plans to address verification requirements.
- Builds test stations using optical and electrical test equipment.
- Creates test automation software to execute tests and store results in database.
- Conducts performance characterization and qualification tests.
- Develop software to process data and distill results. Generate test reports.
- Work closely with Signal Integrity, System Hardware and Software engineering teams with optics integration in HPE routing/switching/security systems.
- Support HPE Customer Service teams with pluggable optics failure root cause analysis.
- Support external optics certification and interoperability with 3rd party networking equipment.
Requirements:- Bachelor's Degree along with 5 years of optical transceiver module specification and test experience. Experience in hardware board design is highly desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience testing state of the art 100G/400G/800G modules per current optical IEEE standards and MSA specifications.
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of optical equipment, electrical equipment, and automation software used in the testing of optical modules and interfaces.
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills working in a mutually supportive team environment.
- Must possess written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly process and present test results.
