*Please note, this position is contingent upon program award.* Job Summary: The Ground Software Engineer designs, develops, integrates, and tests software for ground-based mission systems supporting DoD programs. This role focuses on C++ (primary), with additional work in C#, Python, and scripting for tools and automation. Engineers typically perform both development and integration/test activities, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver robust, secure, and user-focused ground applications and services. Key Responsibilities: Software Development & Implementation: • Design, develop, and maintain ground software applications and services primarily in C++, with additional work in C# and Python/scripting as needed. • Implement features for mission operations, visualization, data processing, and system control in alignment with program requirements. • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code backed by coding standards and peer reviews. Integration, Testing & Optimization: • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests; participate directly in integration and test events (highly valued). • Use GitLab, Jira, and related tools to manage source code, track defects, and validate changes. • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues across software components, services, and external interfaces. • Assist in optimizing application performance, scalability, and reliability in operational environments. Troubleshooting & Support: • Diagnose and resolve software issues reported from test labs or operational environments. • Analyze logs, traces, and metrics to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. • Document issues and resolutions, and contribute to continuous improvement of test and support processes. Project Management & Collaboration: • Collaborate with systems, test, cybersecurity, and operations teams to refine requirements and design solutions. • Participate in agile development processes (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives) and provide accurate task estimates and updates. • Contribute to user-focused design and usability improvements where applicable. Documentation, Compliance & Security: • Create and maintain technical documentation including design artifacts, API/interface descriptions, and test procedures. • Ensure compliance with software development standards, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and internal quality processes. • Support audits, reviews, and technical interchange meetings as needed. Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field; or a combination of education and relevant experience. • Experience: • Entry-level to mid-career roles available (approximately 1-8+ years of software engineering experience). • Integration and test experience is particularly valuable and strongly preferred. • Clearance: Secret Required • Required Skills: • Proficiency in C++ for application or service development. • Experience with at least one additional language: C# and/or Python (scripting for tools, automation, or data processing). • Experience with Git-based version control and GitLab or similar platforms. • Familiarity with agile development practices and issue tracking using tools such as Jira. • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, especially in integration/test environments. • Effective communication and teamwork abilities in cross-functional, technical environments. • Ability to work full-time in either an on-site secure facility or approved remote environment, as defined by the role. • Preferred Skills: • Experience with: • Integration and system-level testing, including automated test frameworks. • Confluence or similar tools for documentation and collaboration. • CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI) and DevOps-oriented workflows. • Knowledge of: • Distributed systems, messaging, and networking used in ground mission systems. • Database technologies (SQL or NoSQL) and data-driven applications. • DoD or aerospace/defense software programs and associated standards. • Relevant certifications (e.g., Security+, cloud, or language/tool-specific certifications) are a plus. Work Environment: • Ability to work at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods. • Roles may be: • On-site in secure facilities, or • Fully remote for eligible Ground Software positions (subject to program and clearance constraints).
