Position OverviewAs a Graduate Intern, Portfolio Management & Analytics with PNC's Chief Investment Office organization, you will be based in New York City, NY
Job DescriptionThe PNC Chief Investment Office (CIO) is seeking a Graduate Intern to join its Portfolio Management and Analytics team. The CIO oversees approximately $150 billion of investment securities and $80 billion notional of interest rate derivatives, making it one of the largest fixed-income portfolios in the banking sector. As a front-office, buy-side intern, you will work directly with senior portfolio managers while gaining exposure to portfolio construction, investment analytics, risk management, and the strategic management of the bank's assets and liabilities. In addition, the CIO oversees PNC's Economics Department and several key modeling functions, including mortgage and deposit modeling, providing the intern with broad exposure to how banks manage earnings, financial risks, assets, and liabilities across a wide range of business activities.
Throughout the internship, you will gain hands-on experience across several areas of portfolio management, fixed-income investing, and the management of financial risks. Specific experiences will vary based on business needs, project assignments, and market conditions, but may include:
• Fixed-income portfolio management, investment strategy, and market analysis
• Portfolio and financial risk analysis, including development of Python-based decision support tools
• Risk measurement, performance attribution, and portfolio stress testing
• How financial institutions manage interest rate risk, liquidity, and long-term financial performance
Through project-based work and direct collaboration with portfolio managers, analysts, and quantitative professionals, you will gain practical experience in the investment process while building a strong foundation in fixed-income markets, portfolio analytics, risk management, and balance sheet strategy.
This position is based in New York City and requires full-time, in-office participation.
Job ResponsibilitiesAs an intern, the candidate will participate in the many activities of the portfolio management / analytics team. These include:
Portfolio / Balance Sheet Analytics
- Analyzing portfolio and balance sheet risk, return, and performance metrics to support investment and risk management decisions.
- Conducting relative value analysis across mortgage-backed securities, U.S. Treasuries, and interest rate derivatives to identify investment opportunities and support portfolio positioning decisions
- Analyzing the drivers of portfolio performance and evaluate how changes in interest rates and market conditions affect the bank's earnings and long-term financial position
- Conducting stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio projections to support investment strategy across varying market environments
Investment Technology & Tool Development
- Designing, enhancing, and maintaining Python-based analytical tools used by portfolio managers and analysts.
- Improving data visualization, reporting, and investment analytics capabilities.
- Supporting automation initiatives that increase efficiency and scalability across investment processes.
Strategic Collaboration
- Partnering with teams across Finance, Balance Sheet Management, Risk Management, and Economics.
- Contributing to earnings forecasting, portfolio monitoring, and financial reporting
- Presenting analytical findings and recommendations to portfolio managers, investment professionals, and senior stakeholders.
QualificationsWe are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Pursuing a graduate degree in a quantitative or analytically focused discipline, including but not limited to: Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Statistics
- Programming experience in Python, R, or similar analytical languages.
- Strong quantitative and statistical problem-solving abilities.
- Coursework in fixed income, investments, financial mathematics, or related subjects.
- Familiarity with fixed income markets, portfolio analytics, banking, or financial risk management is preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced investment environment while taking ownership of projects.

Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education.
