Overview
Graduate Engineer – Mechanical Overview

MSA Professional Services is looking for a Graduate Engineer – Mechanical to join our team in Jacksonville, Florida. This entry-level opportunity is designed for a recent mechanical engineering graduate who is ready to begin building a strong technical foundation in a consulting environment.

 

You’ll support project teams through the planning, design, and construction phases of projects while learning from experienced engineers and collaborating with professionals across multiple disciplines. Your work may include engineering calculations, design documentation, field investigations, construction observation, and technical reporting—all while developing the skills and experience needed for future professional licensure.

 

Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Technical Support
  • Assist with mechanical engineering calculations, analysis, and design under the guidance of more experienced engineers.
  • Support the preparation of HVAC or Plumbing plans, technical specifications, reports, permits, and construction documents.
  • Use engineering design tools and platforms to complete assigned technical tasks.
  • Assist with field investigations and inspections, including visual observations, measurements, and documentation.
  • Observe and document construction activities and help verify work against project documents.
  • Compile, organize, and summarize technical data for studies, evaluations, and design documents.
  • Prepare project documentation, technical memos, reports, and other written materials.
Project Delivery & Quality
  • Complete assigned tasks under the direction of Project Managers, Team Leaders, and experienced engineering staff.
  • Monitor assigned task budgets and communicate progress, questions, or potential issues to the project team.
  • Review your own work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project standards.
  • Develop an understanding of project scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations.
  • Build efficiency and independence on recurring or familiar assignments.
  • Develop time-management and prioritization skills while supporting multiple project assignments.
Client & Team Collaboration
  • Communicate regularly with teammates, Project Managers, Team Leaders, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings alongside senior staff, primarily in an observational and learning capacity.
  • Represent MSA professionally during field visits and construction activities.
  • Interact with contractors, client representatives, regulatory agencies, and the public with guidance from experienced staff.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Seek feedback, mentorship, and opportunities to expand your technical knowledge.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechancial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • No professional engineering experience required
  • Relevant internship or co-op experience preferred
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering principles, practices, and techniques
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools and platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic technical writing skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with guidance
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively as part of a team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn discipline-specific technical skills and accept coaching from experienced staff

Licensure: Not required at hire; educational background should support future Engineer-in-Training and Professional Engineer licensure.
