The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is seeking a Government Relations Specialist III to join the Executive Support Team located at 6330 E HWY 290, Suite 200, Austin, TX.

The Government Relations Specialist III performs highly advanced (seniorlevel) legislative and consultative work. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

The salary range for this position is $122,976 to $142,374. The job class is 1894 and salary group is B27.

Essential Job Duties

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Coordinates and participates in agency activities related to the legislative session; attends legislative hearings and meetings with legislators, legislative staff, and other legislative liaisons.

Project management, systemsbuilding, crossfunctional coordination, policy analysis, data compilation, and presentation skills in the form of meetings in support of TCOLE's legislatively required and requested duties.

Reviews and prepares reports on newly enacted laws and pending state and federal legislation.

Develops, conducts, and evaluates legislative training.

Prepares and reviews report summaries of meetings and hearings.

Represents the agency before legislative committees and provides testimony.

Coordinates agency interaction and testimony before legislative committees.

Coordinates responses to legislative inquires; reviews and edits legislative correspondence.

Coordinates communication with legislative support and executive agencies.

May discuss agency information with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to, TCOLE Commissioners, governmental entities, and legislators and their staff.

Monitors standing and interim committee schedules and agendas; communicates relevant information to agency management.

Prepares summaries of meetings and hearings.

Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Government Relations, Business, or a related field.

At least five (5) years of professional experience in government relations, legislative affairs, public policy, public administration, project management, or a related field.

Education and experience may be substituted for each other on a yearforyear basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Public Administration is preferred.

Experience working with or supporting the Texas Legislature or a state agency is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of state and federal legislative processes and state government administration.

Skilled in compiling, evaluating, and presenting legislative information; in problem solving and negotiating; in policy analysis and research; and in the use of a computer and applicable software.

Ability to analyze issues, to work under pressure and meet close deadlines, and to communicate effectively and clearly on complex issues.

Proven experience in project management, ideally within a government or policyfocused environment.

Excellent interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Strong values around reliability, confidentiality, and sensitive information.

Ability to prioritize work and collaborate with diverse individuals and groups while managing multiple projects with varied timelines.
