Position Purpose:
The Senior Director, Credit provides strategic leadership for GMS credit governance, risk management, collections, and accounts receivable performance across a multi-location building products distribution network. Reporting to the SVP & Chief Credit Officer at SRS Distribution Inc., this leader sets the credit strategy and operating model needed to support profitable sales growth, improve cash flow, reduce bad debt exposure, and strengthen end-to-end order-to-cash performance.
Success in this role will be measured by improvements in portfolio risk, collection performance, cash flow, bad debt exposure, policy compliance, and the standardization and effectiveness of credit operations across GMS.
Key Responsibilities:
Set the enterprise credit vision, governance model, and operating standards for GMS, ensuring alignment with company growth objectives, working capital targets, and risk tolerance.
Develop, maintain, and continuously improve credit policies, approval authorities, customer risk assessment standards, collection strategies, and lien management practices.
Lead the credit granting process for new and existing customers, including creditworthiness reviews, credit limits, terms, periodic reviews, and escalation decisions for complex or high-risk accounts.
Partner with Sales, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Division leadership to balance profitable sales growth with sound credit risk management and strong customer relationships.
Serve as the senior escalation point for large, strategic, or complex customer credit matters, including payment risk, lien rights, legal collections, dispute resolution, and negotiated payment arrangements.
Establish executive-level reporting and credit scorecards that provide clear visibility to portfolio health, customer risk exposure, collection performance, and opportunities for improvement.
Drive process standardization, automation, and system enhancements across credit, collections, cash application, customer master data, deductions, and order-to-cash workflows.
Lead internal controls, documentation standards, audit readiness, and compliance with applicable credit, collections, and mechanic’s lien laws.
Manage relationships with external partners, including collection agencies, credit reporting agencies, legal counsel, and other service providers that support credit and collection activities.
Provide leadership, coaching, and development for credit managers and team members; build bench strength, accountability, performance discipline, and a customer-focused service culture.
Support acquisition integration, organizational change, branch alignment, and business transformation initiatives impacting credit operations and customer financial processes.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
This position reports to the SVP & Chief Credit Officer at SRS Distribution Inc.
A team of GMS Credit Directors report to this position.
Travel Requirements:
Must be available for occasional travel to local credit teams and SRS Distribution Inc. headquarters in McKinney, Texas, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to remain in stationary position in an office environment.
Will frequently move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
Must be able to operate basic office machinery.
Must be able to communicate with team and management and be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise in commercial credit risk assessment, financial statement analysis, credit policy development, collections strategy, dispute resolution, customer negotiations, and bad debt management.
Proven experience leading a sizable credit organization and influencing senior leaders across Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal is also required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in building products distribution, construction-related credit, or another decentralized, multi-location environment; advanced knowledge of mechanic’s lien laws and legal collections; and a track record of leading shared-services transformation, technology implementation, or acquisition integration.
Minimum Education:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is required.
Preferred Education:
Advanced degree or professional certification preferred
Minimum Years of Work Experience:
15+ years of progressive credit, collections, accounts receivable, finance, or order-to-cash experience, including significant leadership responsibility in a multi-location or shared services environment.
Certifications:
No certification is required; relevant credit, finance, or risk credentials are preferred.

The base salary for this position typically falls within the range of $148,700 to $204,450 annually. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance-based bonus programs, commissions, profit-sharing programs, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
