This role is based in our Newton, MA office.

Job Overview

The Global Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing payroll operations across multiple countries and regions, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for a global workforce. This role will report to the Director of Global Shared Services.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Operations Management
  • Oversee end-to-end global payroll processing for employees across multiple countries and jurisdictions
  • Manage payroll cycles to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries, bonuses, commissions, and other compensation
  • Coordinate with in-country payroll providers, vendors, and third-party administrators
  • Review and approve payroll outputs, reports, and payment files before processing
  • Manage payroll-related queries and resolve escalated issues from employees and stakeholders
  • Ensure proper integration between HRIS, time tracking, and payroll systems
  • Cross-collaborate with HR teams to ensure on time and accurate payroll processing

Compliance & Regulatory Management
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international payroll tax laws and regulations
  • Stay current on changes to payroll legislation across all operating countries
  • Manage statutory reporting requirements including tax filings, social security, and pension contributions
  • Coordinate payroll audits and respond to regulatory inquiries
  • Maintain compliance with data privacy regulations (GDPR, etc.) for payroll data
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and SOX requirements for payroll processes

Process Improvement & Standardization
  • Develop and implement global payroll policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvements
  • Standardize payroll processes across regions while accommodating local requirements
  • Lead payroll system implementations, upgrades, and optimization projects
  • Create and maintain comprehensive payroll documentation and standard operating procedures

Team Leadership & Vendor Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members across regions
  • Manage relationships with external payroll vendors and service providers
  • Conduct vendor performance reviews and ensure service level agreements are met
  • Provide training and guidance to HR and finance teams on payroll matters
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships

Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare and analyze payroll reports for management, finance, and HR stakeholders
  • Monitor payroll metrics including accuracy rates, timeliness, and cost efficiency
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Provide payroll data for budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Conduct payroll reconciliations and variance analysis


Qualifications

Education & Certification
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field
  • Professional payroll certifications preferred (CPP, FPC, or equivalent international certifications)
  • Global payroll certification (e.g., Global Payroll Management Institute) is a plus

Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive payroll experience with at least 3-5 years in a global payroll role
  • Experience managing multi-country payroll operations (minimum 5+ countries)
  • Strong knowledge of international payroll practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with payroll system implementations and process improvement initiatives
  • Background in managing payroll vendors and third-party providers
  • Public company or large multinational organization experience preferred

Technical Skills
  • Expert knowledge of global payroll systems (Workday, ADP, SAP, Oracle, etc.)
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and payroll integration
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis
  • Experience with payroll reporting and analytics tools
  • Understanding of accounting principles and general ledger integration

The salary range for this role is $100,000- $127,000 based on experience.
