Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

Lead Fibermaking Maintenance Team of up to 45 Technicians in a fast paced, plant bottleneck area.

Purpose of Position:

Collaborating between Maintenance supervisors, establish organizational design and staffing capabilities to develop high performing teams to maximize capability and equipment uptime. Direct responsibility for process, equipment, and personnel development to increase troubleshooting capability and effectiveness. Direct and indirect responsibility for development and introduction of new technology and improved equipment reliability in the Optical Fiber Production area of the Plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a Safety Culture that seeks injury elimination through proactive solution deployment.
  • Proactively monitor, maintain, and effectively escalate troubleshooting needs for process equipment to maximize product quality, equipment uptime, and plant throughput.
  • Identify key downtime drivers and implement projects to reduce event occurrence and duration.
  • Collaborate between Maintenance Supervisors to allocate resources for identifying, investigating, and mitigating key selects drivers of short-term and chronic performance impacts.
  • Champion Troubleshooting & Repair and PM effectiveness through partnership with Day MET, Reliability, and Engineering community to increase troubleshooting knowledge and effectiveness.
  • Ensure team logs all Troubleshooting and Repair activities into plant CMMS system and manage escalation of issues to additional technical groups. Assist with WO management process.
  • Responsible for management and forecasting Repair & Maintenance spend for the Fibermaking Production Community. Collaborate with GSM for spare parts management and part usage needs forecasting and/or with Engineering for part obsolescence management.
  • Provide input into the management and forecasting of Supplies & Equipment spend for the Fibermaking production community, and lead project efforts to maximize cost reduction.
  • Track and ensure availability of key repairable process equipment.
  • Coordinate training and certification of new personnel and re-training, cross-training, and certification of existing personnel. Identify additional training needs and collaborate between maintenance supervisors to develop training to meet department standards for mechanical and electrical technicians.
  • Actively participate in new technology receivership, ensuring process and equipment meet standards of 24/7 manufacturing.
  • Maintain adherence to troubleshooting checklists and procedures and provide redline improvements when discrepancies or opportunities are identified.


Travel Requirements: Infrequent US travel (
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hours per week, Monday-Friday Day Shift, including schedule offset for presence at shift handover and contact with both day and night shift. Schedule can vary as a function of business needs. Off hours support required based on rotating schedule.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years' experience in Manufacturing Operations or Engineering
  • 2+ years' experience in leadership position
  • B.S. in Engineering (ME, EE, Chem E preferred)

  • Strong engineering and problem-solving skills, CMMS system and TPM experience.
  • Directive and autonomous with ability to make decisions and prioritize work under time pressure.
  • Proven track record of solving problems as an individual contributor and team leader.
  • The ability to initiate, champion, and implement improvements in performance through training, documentation, and safety.
  • Works well within a multi-disciplined team and independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to coach and develop leaders and individual contributors.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to multiple levels of the organization
  • Six Sigma certified.

The range for this position is $98,662.00 - $135,660.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
