Job Summary

Chloeta is hiring a Geotechnical Engineer to provide professional geotechnical engineering services in support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service facilities and infrastructure projects. This role supports a wide range of architectural and engineering (A/E) services, including planning, site investigations, design support, construction administration, inspection, environmental coordination, and technical analysis for new construction, renovations, and infrastructure improvements on Forest Service lands. The Geotechnical Engineer works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, constructible, and cost-effective designs that comply with federal standards and site-specific environmental constraints

Duty Station: Region 8: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia

Travel: Up to 10%, Contingent upon business needs

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive identification of geologic hazards through site reconnaissance and surface and subsurface investigations; Geotechnical drilling, rock and soil sample collection, and in-situ testing; shallow and deep foundation design; retaining wall design; earthwork shrink/swell recommendations; earthwork cut and fill slope recommendations; soil and rock slope stability and excavation methods; erosion survey and mitigation; material source characterization; landslide analyses and mitigation recommendations; instrumentation deployment; laboratory testing of materials; and production of Geotechnical Engineering Reports.


  • Performs geotechnical investigations and analyses for Forest Service facilities and infrastructure, including foundations, earthwork, slopes, pavements, retaining structures, and site stability.


  • Provides foundation and earthwork design recommendations to support architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical system design


  • Participates in value engineering and constructability reviews to optimize foundation systems and site development approaches


  • Collaborates with architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery


Required Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience conducting geotechnical investigations and foundation design for commercial, institutional, or infrastructure projects


  • Knowledge of federal design standards and construction practices related to geotechnical engineering


  • Knowledge of environmental compliance considerations affecting geotechnical work


  • Experience supporting federal agencies


  • Familiarity with construction administration and field inspection on federal projects.


Education and Experience

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or closely related


  • Required: At least Two (2) years of professional geotechnical engineering experience


  • Required: Professional Engineer (PE) license in any of the following states: Region 8- Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia


Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk for report preparation and computer work.


  • Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and GPS/GIS equipment


  • Travel to Federal facilities and project sites may be required
