GIS Specialists perform under general supervision advanced technical work related to the analysis, use, development and maintenance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The incumbent will work with key staff in various departments to perform a variety of complex GIS related work; including, the following:
- GIS Technical Support
- Spatial Data Analysis
- Developing and Maintaining Layers
- Services
- Maps and Applications
- Providing Mapping Expertise to the Police Department.
There is currently one vacancy in the Information Services Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion.
Should the competitive process be suspended for this recruitment, the eligibility list may be limited to three (3) months. Eligibles assigned to the Police Department for consideration must successfully complete a polygraph test or computer voice stress analyzer test, extensive background investigation, and police department interview before receiving a conditional offer of employment. Eligibles must maintain CJIS compliance throughout employment.
Salary$7,281 - $8,787/month
Requirements- Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in GIS(T), geography, engineering, land surveying, computer science or a closely related field.
- Applicants must attach a copy of their bachelor's degree or college transcripts for verification of required units.
AND- Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience operating, implementing, and maintaining automated mapping and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
OR- Five (5) years of experience as a GIS Technician with the City of Fresno.
- Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License may be required at time of appointment.
Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and a current copy of their driving record. The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.
