Job Description

The General Manager of the Integrated Circuit Business Unit is responsible for defining and executing the overall business strategy to drive profitable growth, technology leadership, and operational excellence across the business. This executive provides full P&L ownership while leading a cross-functional global organization spanning product management, engineering, operations, sales, marketing, quality, and customer engagement.

The successful candidate will develop long-term growth strategies, strengthen strategic customer relationships, accelerate innovation, and ensure operational execution that delivers industry-leading financial performance. This leader will work closely with executive leadership to position the business as a market leader in semiconductor and integrated circuit solutions.

The ideal candidate is an experienced business leader who combines deep semiconductor industry knowledge with strong commercial instincts, operational excellence, and strategic vision. They are equally comfortable discussing technology roadmaps with engineers, negotiating with executive customers (internally & externally), reviewing manufacturing metrics with operations leaders, and presenting business strategy to the executive team and Board. They have a demonstrated record of building winning organizations and delivering sustainable, profitable growth in highly technical, global markets.

With the right leader in place, the Integrated Circuits business has a realistic path to scale from the tens of millions to the hundreds of millions over the next several years. As a result, this will be a high-impact and high-visibility leadership role with exposure all the way to the CEO & C-suite.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Business Leadership

  • Own the global P&L for the Integrated Circuit Business Unit.


  • Develop and execute the business unit's strategic plan aligned with Coherent's corporate objectives.


  • Establish annual operating plans, revenue targets, profitability goals, and investment priorities.


  • Drive sustainable revenue growth while improving operating margin and cash generation.


  • Identify new market opportunities, strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and adjacent growth opportunities.


Commercial Leadership

  • Build and maintain executive relationships with key semiconductor customers, foundries, IDMs, OEMs, and strategic partners.


  • Partner with Sales to win new business and expand existing customer relationships.


  • Ensure the organization delivers exceptional customer satisfaction and responsiveness.


  • Guide pricing, product positioning, and market segmentation strategies.


Technology & Product Leadership

  • Define product portfolio strategy and technology roadmap.


  • Prioritize R&D investments based on market trends and customer requirements.


  • Balance innovation with disciplined product lifecycle management.


  • Champion technology differentiation and intellectual property development.


Operations Leadership

  • Partner with Operations to deliver world-class manufacturing performance.


  • Drive improvements in quality, cost, delivery, inventory, and supply chain resilience.


  • Ensure scalable operational capabilities that support business growth.


  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.


Financial Management

  • Deliver revenue, gross margin, operating income, and cash flow objectives.


  • Manage capital allocation and investment decisions.


  • Monitor business performance using KPIs and financial metrics.


  • Develop action plans to address business risks and capitalize on opportunities.


Organizational Leadership

  • Build a high-performing leadership team.


  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and customer focus.


  • Develop succession plans and leadership capability across the organization.


  • Lead organizational transformation as business needs evolve.


Executive Collaboration

  • Serve as a key member of the Semiconductor Business Group leadership team.


  • Present business strategy and performance updates to executive leadership.


  • Collaborate across business units to leverage shared technologies, manufacturing capabilities, and commercial opportunities.


Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Business, or a related technical field.
    • MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
    • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience within the semiconductor, photonics, electronics, or advanced manufacturing industries.
    • Demonstrated experience leading organizations with full P&L responsibility.
    • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing, integrated circuits, photonics, lasers, or related technologies.
    • Proven success developing growth strategies and delivering financial results.
    • Experience managing global cross-functional teams.
