Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) is seeking a talented and team-oriented attorney to provide legal advice to management and staff on a variety of legal issues, with a focus on federal procurement and regulatory compliance matters.

As in-house counsel to National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLC (NTESS), which operates Sandia for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), you will offer practical legal and business solutions to support Sandia's mission and cutting-edge programs.

Experience or interest in corporate governance, internal and external audits, corporate taxation, information law, construction law, or real estate law is a plus but not required.

You may also gain exposure to and mentorship in additional legal areas including physical and data security (including privacy) and Environmental Safety & Health.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Research and respond to complex legal questions that involve federal and state statutes, federal and state agency regulations, the terms of the NNSA-NTESS prime contract, applicable DOE and NNSA directives, and NTESS's corporate policies and procedures.
  • Provide clear, timely, and actionable legal advice to executive leadership and staff.
  • Provide proactive legal counsel to enable risk-informed management decisions.
  • Collaborate with supply chain professionals to negotiate subcontract terms and resolve administration issues.
  • Advise on the protection of confidential or private information and the public release of information.
  • Support contractor compliance with applicable statutory, administrative, and regulatory requirements including but not limited to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
  • Advise laboratories staff on the allowability of prime contract costs incurred and support management responses to internal and external audits.
  • You must be willing to take on new areas of law and other duties as assigned. The selected applicant must be able to work independently and adapt to evolving business needs.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary and is expected to work on-site a minimum of 2-3 days/week.

Salary Range

$138,600 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of legal practice.
  • Admission to practice in New Mexico or eligibility to gain admission within one year via UBE Score Transfer, Reciprocity, or Limited Licensure as In-House Counsel.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience with DOE M&O contractors, national laboratories, or federal government contracts.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Department of Energy Acquisition Regulations (DEAR).
  • Experience in privacy law, information protection, and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).,
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple matters and work with diverse clients.
  • Experience negotiating contract terms and resolving performance issues.
  • Knowledge of professional conduct rules.
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to provide succinct, actionable legal advice.
  • Experience in Environmental Health & Safety law.


About Our Team

The Regulatory and Contract Law Center provides legal support to NTESS across a wide range of areas, including procurement, corporate law, environmental and safety regulations, FOIA, privacy, taxation, and government contracting. The Center is part of the Legal and Prime Contract Division, which includes 17 attorneys and a total staff of 63 engaged in compliance and regulatory functions.

About Sandia National Laboratories

The Sandia National Laboratories is one of three National Nuclear Security Administration research and development laboratories in the United States, managed and operated privately by the National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia.
