Full Job Description
Job Overview:

The General Foreman - Commissioning provides input and technical expertise for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) commissioning projects. Support of Engineering review, procurement (if necessary), construction, and start-up of a medium voltage electrical system and associated substation (if necessary). Provides technical owner correspondence support. On-site supervision to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job is attained and costs are controlled in the commissioning and testing for the project site. Schedules labor, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractors within work discipline to effectively utilize all resources; and works with specifications and contract requirements.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervises and sets direction for all Foremen and craft labor on-site to ensure best use of all company resources; and adherence to all company policies and state and federal regulations. Provides formal coaching feedback to Foremen as well as regular informal feedback to Field Engineers.
  • Schedules equipment, materials and tools. Effectively utilize all resources to maximize production and minimize costs after becoming familiar with scope of work and site conditions. Collaborates with Trade Superintendent on all scheduled activities.
  • Manages, coaches, trains and implements standardized Work Instructions. Assists Trade Superintendent in process improvement efforts.
  • Acts as a technical consultant to all field personnel in the areas of, electrical circuits, power quality, inter-connect systems, distribution systems, and able to troubleshoot & support during integrator commissioning as needed
  • Ability to manage 3rd parties performing the following testing:
    • TTR
    • Winding Resistance
    • Isolation Resistance
    • Oil Transfers After Transformer Soaking
    • PD
    • Fiber or Cat 6
  • Manages and is responsible for safe working conditions and safety procedures on the project, more particularly for specific discipline. Understands and enforces company, jobsite specific, federal, and state safety regulations on site and addresses any concerns with Trade Superintendent. Will be responsible within work discipline for the utilization of best safety practices: the management of employee training for work methods, emphasis on special risks, cranes, lifting, DOT requirements, site conditions, telehandlers, JHA's, accident injury management, electrical safety hazard, LOTO, arc flash (all as apply).
  • Communicates with Trade Superintendent to update him/her on project problem areas and the specific status of the project. Collaborates with Trade Superintendent to plan and staff (hiring, promoting, disciplining, terminating) trade employees through the proper utilization of company resources, processes and policies.
  • Conducts oneself with professional and respectful demeanor while interacting with all internal and external individuals. The General Foreman is expected to create a collaborative environment with front line supervision, craft, subcontractors, vendors, and the Owner to continually improve the company's delivery performance.
  • Compares labor and equipment production and efficiency to the job estimate for specific discipline and informs the Trade Superintendent of cost over-runs and the utilization of company resources.
  • The General Foreman is accountable for verifying that the project construction activities and project engineering are in conformance with the project Quality Plan, and Work Methods. General Foremen are responsible for establishing, aligning, and communicating the project specifications and craftsmanship expectations to all craft workers, vendors, subcontractors, and other agents. GF is also responsible for bringing up repetitive issues found in the field that can be prevented through construction and/or engineering.
  • Mentors other professional positions such as Field Construction Coordinator/Field Engineers and Foremen on work discipline, production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
  • Understands scope of work per the contract. Understand when to not commit to out-of-scope tasks and how to communicate those situations.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
  • Maintain crew and equipment matrixes, comparing information back to established Work Plans and updating Operations Analysis as needed
  • Completes all necessary reports in a timely and legible manner, includes Daily Reports, Quality documentation, Material Requests, time sheets.
  • Performs 10% Quality audits of all installed work or as otherwise detailed in the Project Quality Plan.
  • Familiarize themselves with site conditions, weather patterns, local events/traffic that may cross paths with the project.
  • Lead discipline work activities in the absence of the Trade Superintendent.
  • Oversee all commissioning and testing activities.
  • Assist in drafting the commissioning plan, LOTO plan, and Energization procedure.
  • Oversee and manage energization of the BESS plant.
  • Coordinate energization with utilities and owners.
  • Manage LOTO procedures, and red rope delineation onsite.
  • Review test documents, remediation as required.
  • Assist performance engineering team in performance testing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Strong preference for commissioning engineering experience.
  • Strong preference for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) commissioning experience.
  • Basic computer and Microsoft Office skills including ability to read and create commissioning reports.
  • Ability to write and abide by energization and commissioning plans.
  • Ability to supervise many employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment uses and limitations.
  • Good communication skills to deal with owners and employees.
  • Possess a solid understanding of job costing.
  • Relocation to the community of the project site is required.
  • May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of a company contract licensing, or journeyman or a master electrician license.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents.
  • Knows and understands the required federal and state codes for the project.
  • Must be able to relocate to projects located in AZ, CA or TX upon project completion.

Pay Equity

Salary: $90,000 - $120,000
