We are seeking an experienced, business-minded legal executive to serve as General Counsel and senior legal leader.

The ideal candidate is a strategic advisor and practical problem-solver who brings strong legal judgment and the ability to guide the Company through growth, complex transactions, regulatory matters, litigation, and day-to-day business decisions.

The General Counsel oversees legal matters across the organization and serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

This role partners closely with executive leadership, Compliance, Operations, Finance, and external counsel to provide practical legal guidance, manage risk, and support sound business decisions in a highly regulated environment.

You will lead the legal function and serve as a strategic partner across the business, with a focus on commercial agreements, litigation, regulatory matters, strategic transactions, and legal operations.

Key Role Responsibilities

Legal Strategy & Executive Advisory

• Advise executive leadership on legal, governance, risk, and strategic business matters.
• Translate complex legal issues into practical business recommendations.
• Identify legal risks and recommend appropriate strategies and solutions.

Litigation & Dispute Management

• Oversee litigation, disputes, claims, and escalated legal matters.
• Manage outside counsel strategy, performance, and outcomes.
• Evaluate legal exposure and recommend resolution strategies.

Contract & Transactional Oversight

• Review, negotiate, and approve complex commercial agreements.
• Advise business leaders on contractual risk and legal obligations.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and other corporate transactions.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

• Partner with Compliance on regulatory inquiries, audits, examinations, and investigations.
• Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the organization.
• Support remediation and enterprise risk initiatives.

Leadership & Operations

• Oversee legal department operations, priorities, and processes.
• Manage the legal budget and outside counsel spending.
• Mentor and develop legal professionals and strengthen the Company's legal capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Active license to practice law and good standing with a state bar.
• 15+ years of progressive legal experience.
• Significant experience managing litigation and complex commercial agreements.
• Experience advising executive leadership and senior business stakeholders.
• Experience managing outside counsel and multiple complex legal matters.
• Strong legal research, analysis, negotiation, and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

• Financial services, fintech, banking, lending, loan servicing, or other highly regulated industry experience.
• Consumer finance experience.
• Experience with structured finance transactions, securitizations, ABS structures, or SPV administration.
• Experience with regulatory examinations, investigations, or enforcement matters.
• Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, strategic partnerships, or other corporate transactions.
• Prior experience as General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Associate General Counsel, or another senior in-house legal leader.

Salary Description

$225,000-$250,000 annually, plus a target bonus
