OverviewThe Gas Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of constructionready and asbuilt documents for natural gas transmission and distribution projects, with a primary focus on AVEVA operations. This position requires advanced proficiency with AVEVA, working knowledge of AutoCAD Plant 3D, a solid understanding of utility design standards, and the ability to independently complete increasingly complex design tasks.
Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you will collaborate with senior designers, engineers, and project managers to produce accurate, highquality drawings and project deliverables that meet client, NV5, and industry requirements.
Responsibilities
- Utilize AutoCAD Plant 3D to support legacy model updates, data extraction, and coordination with AVEVA based deliverables when required.
- Apply applicable drafting standards, line class requirements, and design guidelines to all AVEVA and Plant 3D work products.
- Develop piping layouts and system configurations for pipelines, MLV stations, valve automation, and pig launcher/receiver facilities.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and model based data from AVEVA and Plant 3D models.
- Create and update as built drawings based on field markups, survey data, and record documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project managers to resolve model discrepancies, design conflicts, and field issues.
- Support design reviews, scorecard evaluations, and comment resolution related to AVEVA and Plant 3D deliverables.
- Perform self checks and participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized design records, models, and project documentation.
- Support multiple concurrent projects and manage time efficiently to meet project schedules.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA, or related design platforms.
- At least 2 years of direct experience working in the SoCalGas AVEVA environment.
- Familiarity with SoCalGas drafting standards, Design Instruction Bulletins (DIBs), and AVEVArelated workflows.
- Associatedegree in engineering, Architectural Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Design, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of utility design and construction standards applicable to gas transmission and distribution projects.
- 4 6 years of combined experience in civil drafting, design drawing, and utilityrelated design work.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelordegree in civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years of direct drafting and design experience in gas transmission or distribution systems.
- Working knowledge of utility safework practices.
- Proficiency with additional design programs or platforms.
The pay range for this California position is $85,000 - $90,000.00 annually however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate.
