Description:

Genetic Counselor - Antepartum Testing - Days

At NYP/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Genetic Counselors provide information and support to families with members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions. The Genetic Counselor identifies families who may be at risk and investigate problems present in the family. You will interpret information about the disorder, analyze inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and review available options with the families and produce a written report of the recommended care plan. In this role, you will provide information and support during pre- and post-test counseling. A range of genetic tests is available and we are using talent and technology to boldly enhance health. Additional responsibilities include coordination these tests, evaluation of results and ongoing communication with the patients and providers. You will work in collaboration with the Physician Director of the Center as well as the referring Physicians regarding relevant results, assuring seamless continuity of care and coordination with different entities that may be involved. The Genetic Counselor will ensure that the materials required for tests are available at all times and will maintain communication with the different provider labs in order to optimize patient care and efficiency.

This is a full-time day shift (9:00AM - 5:00PM) position located at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

Preferred Criteria:
  • Board Eligibility or Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a related field preferred; new graduates with Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling welcome to apply

Salary Range:

$95,000-$132,500/Annual
