Job description
Job Summary:
The Furniture Lead Design Engineer leads a team of engineers and aircraft interior products ranging from but not limited to closets, partitions, class dividers dogboxes, bins, endcaps galleys, lavatories, or ceiling panels used in commercial and private aircrafts using a computer aided drafting system and support existing designs of products that are manufactured on-site or at remote sites. While creating new designs, considerations of engineering budgets, cost, certification, material selection, and ease of manufacturing is necessary. Product designs range from basic interiors products used in commercial airlines, to first class and high-end products. The Furniture Lead Design Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager
Summary of Duties:
1. Leads and coordinates furniture design engineering team to ensure successful completion of furniture engineering designs to meet internal and external customer specifications and requirements.
2. Develop and maintain accurate 3D models, preliminary layouts, production details and assembly drawings while meeting ITCM, PDR, CDR and drawing release dates.
3. Analyze product requirements and manufacturing considerations to develop drawings and other engineering data required for the manufacturing of the product and data submittal to the customer.
4. Act as a shop liaison during initial production of new product designs to prevent and/or solve critical or complex engineering issues that may arise.
5. Collaborate with Supply Chain to evaluate supplier lead times, costs and availability for parts and tooling necessary to manufacture the product being designed.
6. Review and sign off approval on engineering drawings.
7. Serve as the technical authority for assigned programs, products, and design activities, providing guidance and recommendations regarding technical requirements, engineering solutions, and design-related issues.
8. Initiate and lead modular design approach; Control modular design catalogues.
9. Mentor entry-level engineering personnel in fields of expertise.
10. Develops tools, improves processes, and leads technical initiatives aimed at improving departmental ability to deliver on time, on budget, with the highest quality.
11. Coordinate task assignments and monitor progress to support adherence to budget and schedule.
12. Ensures all design data release timelines meet the designated schedule for successful aircraft delivery.
13. Collaborates effectively with cross-functional departments and serves as a focal point for questions, technical guidance, etc.
Candidate skills & requirements
Qualifications:
Education: BS Engineering/Science, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or 10-15 years equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years' engineering experience related to aerospace (6 of which must be in aerospace furniture design). Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in design engineering. Leads technical aspects of large-scale programs, Takes highly innovative steps to improve designs and processes; Experience with several complex retrofit or complete interior design programs; Able to technically manage four or more units or products
Computer Skill:
• Proficient knowledge in MS Office Suite, MS Windows.
• 10 years' experience in Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or CATIA
• Knowledge of PLM
• AutoCAD Mechanical
Knowledge & Skills:
• Working knowledge of Aviation regulatory requirements (FAA and EASA)
• Expert knowledge of common materials and manufacturing processes used in the aerospace industry
• Expert knowledge of testing and certification requirements for common aerospace components, monuments, and materials
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals
• Excellent ability to work well in a team environment and cross-functionally
• Excellent time-management and problem-solving skills
• Six Sigma White or Green belt certified preferred
• Knowledge of Systems Architecture
• Work independently and be self-motivated
• Excellent ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Excellent knowledge of configuration management principles
Working Conditions:
