COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Pay Rate: $36.00-$44.00 per hour

This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs.

In select cases, and depending on market conditions or exceptional candidate qualifications, compensation may exceed this range, provided it aligns with applicable law and our compensation policies.

SUMMARY:

Oversees Food Room Attendant operations for Aztec Shops, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance with regulations. Manages staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Oversees Aztec Shops janitorial and pest control contract, monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), conducts inspections, and resolves service issues. Handles purchasing, inventory, budgeting support, and billing verification. Maintains positive relationships with stakeholders, addresses customer concerns, and supports risk management functions, including commercial solicitation requests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DEPENDING ON LOCATION:

Food Room Attendant Staff Management Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and functionality restrooms, common areas, lighting, tables, and chairs.
  • Manage 1 Assistant Manager, 1-2 subordinate Crew Leads and approximately 2 - 20 employees including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, developing, evaluating and disciplining.
  • Plan and prepare work schedules, set work priorities, assign tasks, and conduct staff meetings and training sessions to ensure adequate coverage and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all audit results "meets standards" or better.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, health.
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints promptly while developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel.
  • Complete administrative duties accurately and on time, including inventory monitoring, inspections, signage for upcoming closures and security/internal control measures.

Services Contract Responsibilities
  • Manage janitorial and pest control services contract, serving as the primary liaison between Aztec Shops and the contractor.
  • Monitor contract compliance, service delivery, and adherence to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure high standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality.
  • Coordinate with contractor management to address performance issues, implement operational improvements, and maintain a collaborative vendor relationship.
  • Review contractor reports, KPIs and report findings to appropriate Director(s) for each area.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess performance, identify trends, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Financial and Purchasing Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Associate Director to develop Food Attendant budgets to meet staffing and supply needs.
  • Order necessary supplies for service area locations (e.g., paper goods, soap, light bulbs) using the inventory management system.
  • Validate Janitorial and Pest Control Contract billing accuracy, allocate invoiced amounts to cost centers and ensure alignment with agreed fee schedules and contract terms.

Commercial Solicitation Responsibilities
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Student Life Advisor for Campus Events and Alternative partners.
  • Review campus solicitation requests submitted by student organizations and off-campus entities through the Modern Campus Involve event application system.
  • Prepare and issue invoices for approved commercial solicitation applications.
  • Collect and review Certificates of Insurance (COI's) and required endorsements to verify compliance with Aztec Shops insurance requirements.
  • Coordinate solicitation schedules, location availability, and site assignments.
  • Apply SDSU Building and Grounds Regulations when reviewing and processing solicitation requests.
  • Review SDSU Building and Grounds Regulations annually and recommend updates to the university on behalf of Aztec Shops, as needed.
  • Develop and manage the annual commercial solicitation budget.
  • Maintain organized commercial solicitation records within the contract files.
  • Identify and report individuals or entities conducting solicitation activities without authorization.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The minimum requirement for applicants is a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) degree; an A.A. degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Hotel/Restaurant Management is preferred but not required; plus at least two years experience in high volume food service operations and at least one year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strong communications, computer literacy, and mathematical skills are required.

Food Handler's certificate from the County of San Diego is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read, write and understand English. Requires the ability to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives. Requires the ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business information, governmental regulations, and technical/trade journals. Requires the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Requires the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, subordinates, vendors, other departments, customers and the general public.

MATHEMATIC SKILLS:

Requires the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, portions, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math. Requires the ability to prepare and analyze numerical figures, create and interpret spreadsheets.

REASONING ABILITY:

Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize work and pay attention to detail. Requires good analytical, quantitative skills, organizational and management skills.

MANUAL DEXTERITY:

Must be able to utilize a computer. Requires the ability to use a variety of office machines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machines, and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk/move, sit, and stand for prolonged hours; handle objects, cooking tools, or control; and reach. Must be able to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds. Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION:

Must have the ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds.

WORK CONDITIONS AND HAZARDS:

Work is regularly performed in a food production area where there is frequent exposure to food fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to humid and hot conditions as well as cleaning chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act pursuant to California Penal Code Section 11166.5.

Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. This may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
