Ready to build Financial Information eXchange (FIX) connectivity for our next-generation cash equities platform?

The Opportunity

As a Full Stack Developer in Corporate and Institutional Banking - Cash Equities you will join the Client and Market Connectivity team in Toronto, building strategic Financial Information eXchange (FIX) client-facing and market-facing connectivity for HSBC's cash equities trading platform. This role sits at the core of the trade lifecycle - from client FIX messages through to execution on exchange - helping deliver a platform that becomes a central pillar of our future-state architecture. You will build event-based, high-throughput and low-latency components that support trading across Stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and Swaps for internal and external clients. Working in an agile environment with highly automated deployment pipelines you will ship changes early and often to deliver business value. You will partner closely with product owners and business sponsors to shape priorities and maintain clear communication and expectations. Success means scalable architecture, strong engineering discipline and measurable improvements in test automation, deployment automation, and continuous delivery maturity.

What you'll be doing

  • Build event-based, high-throughput components that support the cash equities trade lifecycle end-to-end
  • Partner with product owners and business sponsors to define requirements, align priorities and manage expectations
  • Improve test automation and deployment automation to increase release quality and speed
  • Advance continuous delivery maturity through stronger pipelines, tooling and engineering practices
  • Apply Linux or UNIX tooling to support development, diagnosis, and production support activities
  • Collaborate across a geographically distributed global team spanning multiple trading hubs


What we're looking for
  • Bring substantial hands-on software engineering experience with low-latency or real-time systems
  • Build and optimize Core Java and microservices designs for low-latency architectures including approaches such as Zero Garbage Collection (Zero GC)
  • Use the Linux or UNIX command line effectively in day-to-day engineering work
  • Apply strong working knowledge of the Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol and cash equities order flows including low touch (Direct Market Access (DMA), Direct Strategy Access (DSA)) and high touch (managed, Program Trading (PT))
  • Implement DevOps practices and tooling such as Groovy, Jenkins Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) plus logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • Communicate effectively with Sales and Trading desks and internal technology teams, adjusting detail to the audience
  • Deliver across the full development lifecycle from requirements through implementation
  • Partner with business and IT stakeholders across a geographically distributed multi-cultural organization
