French Teacher, Junior School

Full-Time Permanent, Starting Late August

JOB PURPOSE

The York School is seeking a passionate and dedicated French Teacher to deliver and assess a high-quality educational program aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and our school's mission, vision, and values. This role requires an educator who can foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that inspires community, challenge, and curiosity. The ideal candidate will build meaningful relationships with students, supporting their academic and personal growth while contributing to a collaborative school culture. In addition to classroom teaching, they will engage in co-curricular activities, experiential learning, and the overall community life of the school.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach and assess the curriculum within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework and philosophy and in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education requirements
  • Infuse The York School's mission, vision, and values into all curricular and co-curricular activities
  • Employ a range of pedagogical approaches and strategies to build strong relationships with students, remove barriers to learning, and enhance overall learning outcomes
  • Collaborate closely with the IB Coordinators and colleagues within and across sections to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to teaching and learning
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of students, including preparing and issuing report cards and progress reports
  • Communicate regularly with parents and other key school stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged in the school community
  • Create a positive and engaging teaching and learning environment through adept classroom management practices and techniques
  • Establish and uphold student expectations through effective disciplinary strategies, in alignment with the school's behavior management policy, fostering an environment conducive to teaching and learning
  • Incorporate innovative technology to enhance student learning and support instructional goals across the curriculum
  • Provide an environment that supports bringing a diversity of voices and worldviews to classroom material and learning experiences, including local and global perspectives
  • Stay abreast of best practices by actively participating in professional learning opportunities and engaging in professional development opportunities
  • Contribute to student co-curricular and athletic programs as a teacher lead/supervisor or coach
  • Contribute to student experiential learning by supervising overnight excursions and ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational experience
  • Participate in supervision duties, staff meetings, and other required engagements, and perform additional job-related responsibilities as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • A Bachelor's degree, B.Ed. and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers with Primary and Junior qualifications
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience teaching French
  • Training and experience teaching within the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework considered an asset
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
  • Collaborative team player who contributes to an inclusive, relationship-based culture
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with sound judgment and discretion
  • Service-oriented and professional in interactions with students, families and colleagues
  • Organized and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Comfortable in a technology-rich workplace; Google Workspace experience is an asset

Compensation is based on The York School Faculty Salary Grid which varies by qualifications and years of applicable teaching experience. The range for 6 years or less of applicable teaching experience is $72,503-$103,954 and the range for 7 years or more of applicable teaching experience is $103,156 -$139,554.
